Garmin GPS and Center Console

Hey everyone,

Was wondering if anybody out there has tried to install a GPS unit right over the vent and radio in the new Civics versus the windshield. Also, is it possible to install a power port right about the radio so that a wire doesn't have to run down over the center console? There is a mini USB power connection so thinking about a possible mini USB port with mini USB to mini USB wire, but then there is the whole right amount of volts issue.

i have my mounted almost like MSJWILD's but i have it mounted in the cubby hole above that. Just use the adhesive disc and the suction mount... works great!

Yah,thats a cool spot to mount it, i had it there for a while in the pocket. But really its a little bit dangerous. because you have to look down to see the screen.

I have attached a concept image. Certainly not a piece of art but I think it conveys my idea. I assume the mount part is easy. It's all about the power cord so I don't have some big chunky wire dangling down across the center console. Looking for a clean look, if possible.

To hide the wire, just put the AC power cord into your outlet in the center console armrest, then run it under the center console to where ever you mount the gps unit. Simple, but might take a little bit of elbow work. Depending on where you mount it, you might not be able to totally hide wires. Thats why the oem unit is nav is the best.

I must say, Gitrdone42's setup looks really nice, and not to mention clean. How do you have your wires setup?

That small window is a really neat place to mount. I've got mine mounted like IceMurder. I'm planning on hardwiring it some time in the next month.

I just have mine ran down through the weather stripping and under the dash, it comes back out right under the power point.

I will get a few more pics of the actual wiring

down the door sill

Coming out from the dash

and just another pic

the small window is the perfect spot! originally had it in the middle of the windshield but it wasn't a great spot. ended up moving it on the small window as well. it's a pretty good location, wires are out of the way, and less conspicuous from the outside if you have tints

I remember on my trip to california, the suction came loose at least 5 times there and back. That was pretty annoying.
also, does it stick to tinted windows?

instead of putting the wire behind the consoles and crap. i just let mines dangle under the steering wheel towards the 12v. i just figured i might need to use my garmin on the another car. maybe i'll just buy another cable. instead of having the gps like the one ^^^ up there. i pushed mines more down towards the speeometer console towards the left side =]
