Painting lug nuts?

Okay, well when I got my wheels they came with some black lugs.. don't know what kind they are or anything because the guy threw them in for free.. anyway I can tell they arn't the best in the world, and are starting to rust a little.. Anyway I wanted them to be red or blue to begin with, so my friend said to get some aircraft paint remover, and then buy this kind of paint for like home depot or somewere that has anti rust.. the paint comes in like blue or red or whatever..

So basically I want to know is this a "ok" way to paint them? Anything else I should do? Just info like that pretty much..

Anyways thanks in advanced

if you do paint them do everything in your power to keep paint out of the insides of the bolts...the paint will get on the threads and make really fn hard to get the bolts back off...also i would clear coat the snot out of them and put multiple coats.. cause when you put them on they mostly likey will scratch so more layers the better...good luck

i painted my lugs with normal high heat paint.. i sanded (which didn't do much) then etch primed them, them primed them, sanded them again, painted them with the holes facing the floor, then clear coat..

i won't be surprised if they eventually peel.. but right now they are holding up great .. after 2 weeks hahaha.. although i did take some paint off while putting on the lock nuts.. it was hard finding the fitment so trying to find it ended up scratching the paint off

My brakes are the same color blue as my gauges, however, you cant see them too well through the wheels, mabye painting them is a good alternative to go with...

Would it be allright to use engine enamel like i used on my brakes? mabe simply spray coat it?

All you need to do is cover the threads with tape when you paint them.

As for the lugs though, the problem you're going to run into is that you obviously need to put the lugs on once you paint them, and I can't imagine doing that without scratching them.

You might be better off painting them on the car with the wheels installed with s very small paintbrush, but you'd have to repaint them every time you took your wheels off.

Could probably be done in an hour.

hmmm, try this.

give them a light quick sanding...then give it about 3 coats of primer. after the primer is dried spray on the base coat...i would do 3 coats base and then bake it in the oven for like 10 minutes...afterwards spray on another three coats....and shoot like 5 coats of clear...go crazy with the clear lol...and then bake it for 10 minutes...then shoot another 5 or more layers of clear then bake it for another 10 minutes...hopefully the paint will be hard enough the withstand everything

no.... what im saying smart guy, is if u keep layering and layering on paint, the socket wont fit. u can force it on there but its gonna scrape off the paint in the process. u cant use a bigger socket because it wont fit right and it will most likely strip the lug nuts when u go to torque them, not to mention strip off the paint. what needs to be done is 1 or 2 coats just to cover the lug nuts. then extreme care needs to be given when putting them on and takng them off or they will chip.
