Make 7440 Taillight Bulbs Fit

I tried installing the 7440 Pilot Chrome Bulbs... however, the bulb had a plastic base compared the factory all glass bulb. I read on other threads that some people shaved off some of the plastic to fit... does anyone have pics of how they trimmed it... and how well does it clip in after the adjustment? Don't want it to fall in taillight and shatter
