SeatBelt Chime investigation w/PICS

I decided to take a look at that annoying seat belt beep. My dash is apart anyways. The sound is coming from the instrument panel, it's definitely part of this white thing. But I can't see a speaker anywhere. The circuit board is held on by the RPM guage on the other side.

I'm also going to test the car's RPM while it's still apart, because I twisted the little arm and I'm not sure if I did something to it.

So, yeah, my RPM guage wasn't working. I pulled the circuit board off from the front display.

Woot! It's working again. It's just a straight, smooth pin that goes from the RPM arm into the circuit board (the silverish circular thing on the 4th picture above). I think while fiddling with it it came out a bit, so I shoved it back in real hard like, and it's working.

Can anybody identify the speaker on the circuit board? There was only two diode looking things on the other side. The side above was the most interesting.

Round blue object on the right, with the hole in the top, is most likely the source of the seat belt chime. Looks like some type of piezo speaker.

Ah! Too bad it's integrated with all chime noises. Maybe somebody can test the harness and find out which is the seat belt sensor. Then we could maybe short it out and then get rid of the seatbelt reminder!

Great,

Several people have asked about it. The general response is, "Don't do it." At least I looked at how it could be done. It was the most annoying thing on the car when I first got it. Now I just wear my belt.

The only other annoying thing about this car is the Emergency Brake position. It digs into my knee.

The seat belt chime drives me nuts. It wouldn't if it wasn't SO LOUD. they didn't need to make it chime so loud. I always wear my seatbelt but i don't put it on until after I turn on the car (it's just a habit that I can't break) needless to say, I turn on the ignition and the thing practically screams at me and hurts my ears.

one of my friend's said after about 15 min the noise goes away, but then again he also said he was "high" at the time.

as for me i just wear the belt, but when i let my dad or some one drive my car they just put the seat belt behind the seat and clip it in.

I considered taking a pin or other sharp object and jamming it into that hole that Mako pointed out. Sort of like an ancient lobotomy for the Piezo Speaker. HAHA But I'm holding off for now.

:face-icon You don't have an electronics background do you?

Go buy a Helms, figure it out from there.

I don't think I need a Helms to disable a Piezo from working. Thanks for the suggestion though.

You could put a piece of tape over the opening and that would muffle it considerably. I believe the only problem with that would be all the other chimes that play would also be muffled. i.e. lights on, etc.

I have looked in to this same deal. A freind of mine works for Honda as a Tech.He said the damm seat belt sensor is tide in with the SRS system and by bypassing it will cause an SRS fault. He says Honda designed it this way since seat belts are the law and it was a way to get poeple to start wearing the belts. He said the best thing to do is go to a salvage yard and get an old clip from another car and leave it clipped in place.

Why not just sear the belt? Wearing a windshiled is a lot more uncomfortable...just my .02

Honda has succeeded IMO. For me, my friends, and several comments I've seen on these boards. We are now wearing our belts constantly to avoid hearing the chime.

I like the idea of some tape over it. That thing is so loud. Good in case you forget your keys in the ignition. But otherwise I could do without it.

I guess the guys at Honda were one step ahead of us.
