DIY for FLYWHEEL

All Si Drivers,

I'm looking to get a light weight fly wheel. Looks like it's a hell of a lot of fun and lowers how fast the car can rev. Downside is that if not careful it will stall a hellofalot easier because there won't be enough inertia behind the wheel to keep it moving. Anyone have one installed? Keeping the car naturally aspirated, what's the best weight to go with? Does anyone know how to install these and is it best to not do this one yourself?

As far as the install, it really depends on your level of experience. Have you ever done a clutch/flywheel install before? on any car?

I'll start off saying, I work for Exedy....

So I dont want to get into a deep sales pitch with you, but if you plan to do a flywheel, you should do a clutch while you are in there... its an awful lot of work for only a flywheel. Even if you went with something like our stage 1 which will drive very similarly to stock, but will hold up to a bit more abuse.

I was considering just doing a flywheel in my 8th gen, as well, and keeping the stock clutch... but to be honest, if I am going to go through the trouble of pulling it all apart, I would like to not have to do it again any time soon... So I decided to do both whenever I get around to it.

Oh, and BTW: here is a DIY for clutch/flywheel: DIY-- dropping transmission for installing clutch

Ah, sorry. I assumed that you put in a new flywheel. What exactly will a stage one clutch do and how much harder to work the clutch is it than a stock?

The stage 1 is rated at 205 TQ at the wheels. All of our stage 1 & 2 clutches have a pedal effort increase that ranges between 10-30% over stock. (I cant say exactly how much this particular part number increases over stock)
It will be noticeable but not uncomfortable, Since a comfortable, consistent, and linear pedal effort is one of our main design criteria.

I will likely end up putting in our Exedy Stage 1 and our Exedy one piece chromoly Flywheel one of these days... Basically, I just need to find the time to do the install. Which could be next week, or it could be next year... hard to tell at this point.

well, if you know a good deal or where to find one on the Exedy Clutch, let me know. I asked around and that one consistently came in as "the best." So, keep me in the loop. You did say it'll add 10-30% pressure under the pedal? For a daily driver is that good?

The increase in pedal effort will be hardly noticeable after a few days. (meaning you'll get used to it)
IMO, the stock clutch pedal effort is too light to begin with. The first day I got in it, I almost put my foot through the floorboards. The increase wont hurt anything, since all of the Exedy clutches are designed to work with the rest of the car without any issues.

As far as finding an Exedy goes, we have lots of dealers, many of whom advertise or are active on this site. Maybe try Corsport, Sport compact direct, SCtuned, clubrsx, Z1 performance, King motorsports, etc...

There are lots of them out there.
