It depends on the kit that you install. XenonDepot Xtreme HID ballasts are super low draw meaning that you will be able to install the kit without the use of a relay harness.

best and cheapest don't always go hand in hand. However, if you are looking for an economically priced quality HID kit that will come with a legitimate warranty then I would suggest looking at the Volt HID kit. The current discounted website pricing along with the "8thcivic" coupon code will get you the kit for $89.99 shipped within the continental USA. This is literally the lowest we have ever sold these kits for. Save while you can.

I just installed my 6500k XenonDepot Xtreme HIDs using some of this guide. Lovely is all I can say. I used some of this guide as far as going through the fender liner for the passenger side bulb, but I ended up removing the bumper to make it easier to hide all of the stuff like the ballasts and the relays and wiring. Great write up. And thanks to XenonDepot for a great product.

One question I have for Steve, if the Xtreme HIDs are low draw and don't need a relay harness, why do they come with the relay built into the harness?

Here's a couple shots with my Xtreme HIDs. Gonna have to get some projectors to get a sharper cutoff.

t1.8matt: The harness is not built in at all. It can be used or you can choose to simply power the ballasts directly from the OEM headlight wiring. The relay harness is the harness that requires you to run a lead to the power for batter, a ground, a connection to the OEM headlight harness, and a connection to the ballast.

right, i didnt' mean built in to the whole harness. but if they're not really needed, why supply them at all? If the civic doesn't technically need them, is it because these aren't vehicle specific kits that the relay is included?

Hi,
Some vehicles require the use of a relay harness otherwise you end up getting an error code. Other vehicles require a harness because the OEM headlight harness is not able to supply a stable 12V.

Hi,
As long as your vehicle is able to supply a stable 12V from the OE harness then you do not have to use a relay harness. The Xtreme ballasts are low draw ballasts meaning that you can safely power them directly from the OEM wiring without the potential of causing any damage.

OK I installed my xtream kit yesterday using some of this write up, the engine bay on an 2009 is different so I had to mount the driver side ballast in a different place. You definitely need to set aside 2-3 hours for this install so you can take your time. The passenger side took the most time with me having to go thru the wheel cover in order to access the light. I am happy with the product and will tweak it a little later on this evening. Happy Modding..
