DIY: Restitching stock shift knob
Ok, its a very simple thing to do and ive been talking to alot of people about doing it lately so i decided to make a diy.
Needed: Stock knob Red thread- either oem Honda or you can get some from a local arts and crafts store which is what i did and it turned out nicely Craft Knife or razor of some kind A large stitching needle of somekind. Im not sure what kind youll need exactly, but i had one from when I installed my leather steering wheel cover. Its about 2.5 inches long with a slight curve at the end, and that made it alot easier. Heres how the stock knob should look before you start. (notice the pattern of the stitching) ![]() I saw where they sell the oem thread online but it costs around $6 and everywhere wanted about $15 just to ship it. it was ridiculous. So i went to good ol Walmart and found some of this stuff for only about $3! Its enough to do it more than once if you mess up and still have enough to do the steering wheel if you want to. ![]() Start by cutting away the original thread ![]() Youll see how the stock thread made impressions in the leather ![]() Start at the top, from the inside and thread in a cross pattern until you get to the bottom ![]() get to the bottom and run the needle back up to the top and go down the other side. After you do that it should look something like this ![]() Dont forget to tie a small knot and tighten up all the stitches!! Finished ![]() ![]() Enjoy! Its a great way to spice up the stock knob for only about $6 |
