DIY-- Painted stock rims with red lip, and fix your curb rash

With the painted rims, how easily does the paint chip when getting new tires put on or even with your rachet when taking the wheels off and on?

Or do the layers of clearcoat prevent that from happening easily?

It looks cool, but I just want to make sure I wouldnt have to be touching it up all the time if I did it.

The clear protects it from alot. I'm careful when removing the lugs so no chips or scratches from that. I had the tires mounted before painting them

Right, but I was more inquiring about down the road when you get new tires etc. Do you need to touch up each time you get new tires?

some shops have a guarantee not to touch your rims..

I wonder how some professional auto paint will work on there, like House of Kolor. Here's what I'm considering... sanding them down and putting on a coat of automotive primer. Then mounting the ture on the rim or something to spin it. I'm thinking if I can get it spinning then I can mark the line for the red lip more accurately by keeping the pencil stationary in like a vice or something and touch it to the spinning wheel. After that, I want to brush some liquid latex around the mark, again with a spinning whele/rim. This would mask it off really cleanly I would think, it will be an experiment though.

why is duplicolor bad?? i was thinking of using that kind of paint....should i reconsider or its just personal preference?

ok im doing this and for some reason my paint is all powdery and wont dry....its been drying for an hour

does it look painted??? What i mean by it is does it look like it was spray painted with all the impurities and what not. or did the clear coat fix that and it has a super clean factory look? Me and my bro both have the same civic SI and were planning on doing this mod together.

Hmmm, I wonder how it would come out if you don't bake them and just let them dry... I kinda want to do this when I get my '04 rsx type s rims, but they have tires already mounted on them and I don't feel like going to a tire place to get them taken off, then go back and put em back on.

I let mine air dry for 24 hours before re-installing them and they came out great!
