I had a muffler shop find me a flange off another R18 axle-back. (didnt want to cut mine up)
They cut off the flange that came on the Si axle-back, and welded the R18 flange onto the Si axle-back. I use my stock R18 gasket and everything bolts up nicely. No loose gaskets.

I also used my ex gasket, it seems to fit fine. However... I need to go stretch my springs -_- I'm getting a ghetto fabulous rattle when I go WOT.

i got a question. Is there a different of size of the axleback between the coupe and sedan? I was wondering if you can put an coupe SI axleback on a lx sedan?

You can use a coupe axleback on a sedan. I put a coupe Si one on my EX.

Just did this DIY. Took about an hour. Had to stretch the springs due to rattling. I think that was the hardest part.

Differences: Slightly deeper tone more noticeable at low RPMs, sounds better than EX axleback

Great instructions! +rep

i dont know about you guys but i feel like the car gained a little torque from the si axle back. and for the rattling problem, do i have to loosen the springs or tighten them more?

Stretch them out, so I guess loosen?

instead of stretching them out you can find some large enough washers to keep the springs compressed

I used the same gasket that was on the old exhaust.. After i guess its been "broken" in.. It gives a deep tone to it and you can hear the differences in it.. =]

Nice write up man, but I have one quick question. Will the mid-pipe fit into the R18? If I find a mid pipe from an FA5, will it fit my FA1? Even if it means slight modifications?
