Someone mentioned they are located in the dash, does anyone know where exactly they are and if it is a good location for larger aftermarket x overs? Will be putting in some focal utopias and thinking ahead about where the best x-over install would be. They are the older model so it doesn't have the control board to install. Any sugguestions?
anyone know how the grommet was able to fit back in the hole without pinching the new speaker wire that was run through if the wire wasnt threaded through the actual rubber hose?
I believe the Sony xPlod GT1626A's will make a nice uprgrade to the stock HU.
I'm installing a full set of these today and will report back on the pros and cons...
BTW.... one "PRO" on these are that they are a shallow mount and would not require any mods to the front or rear sheet metal mountings or trunk hinges.
has sony done any drastic changes to their car audio stuff in the last decade? if not, i would stay away from them.. they always overrate their products and they are just not good. with that said.. anything is better than stock... right?
OK... just fnishedthe install (FedEx go here late).
So total ime was 1.5 hours. Products used: Sony XS-GT1626A Coaxial Car Speaker 40W 6 1/2" (4x - 2 pair) + Scosche SAHC634 6.5" Door Speaker Adapters (4x - 2 pair) + Metra 72-7800 Honda no-cut speaker wire harness adapter.
In the end, the proof is in the speaker performance. Honestly, there is some improvement - but no as much as I had hoped. The mid-range tonality was better as was the overall tightness and balance across the spectrum. But there is no additional "punch" from them. I assume this is because there is no better efficiency between the stock Hondas and the xPlods.
Pros:
> Easy install - no cutting or mods required. Can go back to stock without a problem or any hint that aftermarket speakers were there.
> Slightly better mid-ranger tonality and tighter definition across he spectrum
> Better MAX power handling and slightly more db volume.
Cons:
> Not even lose to a full upgrade of the HU and speakers
> Lack of additional "punch" from stock.
> Questionable value (total cost: $140 shipped) compared with other options.
I think the "upgrade" will be fine for what I wanted. It's not going to wow anyone or make for a compelling upgrade. Still... I think that without upgrading the HU or adding additional power, this probably won't ever be anything worth shouting about. If you just want a speaker upgrade, this one is worth considering, but I'd recommend a full system upgrade.
ya, at the end of the day, if youre running off a stock HU only so much power are gonna get to the speakers, whether it is aftermarket or not.. also even if you get an aftermarket HU, again, there is only so much power that can be sent to the speakers... esp enough for good bass.. that is why you needeither a sub or components hooked up to an external amp.
PS - consider using a "church key" (paint can lid tool) to more easily remove the door controls. It will keep you from noogying them using a screwdriver to
"pry" it out....
this is great info! was a big help with my install today. the door panels are actually quite easy to remove/install. omg routing the wires through the door grommets was a major pain!
ok. i have a question? when putting in the after market. do i have to drill new holes or do i cut out the stock speaker housing like you do to the rear speakers? i need help...
I have a 2007 LX that I am upgrading the speakers for and any comments about the install would be appreciated.
I'm going to use Polk db521's in the rear and Polk DXi650's in the front. I've read this post and others and think I can do the install myself, but am wondering exactly what I'll need for wiring adapters to connect the speakers to the factory wiring. Can someone please post a link to a trusted site (preferably the least expensive) that sells the connectors if needed?
Again, any other comments would be sincerely appreciated!
I already bought the 6-1/2" speakers for the front. The rears haven't been bought yet. Will replacing both front and rears give me an improvement or would replacing the fronts only be the biggest bang for the buck?
didn't read all the comments but i had the same issue of a 6.5 not fitting in mine. I put in alpine type r components. i just made a custom shim out of plywood to put behind the speaker because the basket of the type r was too big. worked great.
I got my 07LX used and was going to do this when I did my door inserts. But someone did it for me :woowoo: thay put alpine type R in the door with an xover. Saves me some work
