doing THE detail tomorrow, and have a couple questions
So i just got done washing the car, yup 10:45 at night eastern time, lol
and im driving the mom's accord to work and after im going to do the most indepth detail in my life to the fiji blue si of mine.. ive used claybars before, and i do the two bucket method (no da buffer or polisher) I plan to do the Meguiars 3 step deep crystal treatment to the car for those of you familiar... HOWEVER, i dont think that the "cleaner wax", the step 3 reccommended stuff, is the best option. I have two bottles of the NXT tech 2.0(walmart was selling the meguiares car care packs-so i got one, then a week later they were selling for only $15, what a steal...), I also have a full bottle of the meguiares hi-tech yellow wax(#26)-I've used the hi-tech yellow wax before and I love the longevity, but have heard that the new NXT can work wonders.....what is my best choice as this being a semiannual detail for the car? Of course I plan to give the car another coat of was in between, but this is my first coat. Also, I got 2 bottles of ScratchX with the kits, do those fit in anywhere to the mix or replace anything? Last but not least, Is there a way to know when I have done the steps good enough, how do I know when to stop applying in other words..? Thanks so much, planning to be loving the fiji and afterall i did spend a good $40 in everything so I want to do it right.

Fack the snow, I don't even like to drive in the rain in FL because I know my car will be trashed afterwards. Let's just say I've washed my car twice in the last 3 days.

update: I read a recent thread and understand now that I should replace the step1 with the scratch x as it is much more effective against swirls..
still wondering which wax to use? should I do layers? I plan on this being a full detail on the car when I get home. online @ work FTL! When polishing, when is the car quote "polished" enough? Last edited by silver h22; 03-22-2008 at 11:03 AM. |

your paint will be polished enough when you see no more defects, but without the work of a buffer there will be defects. scratch-x contains fillers that will wash away over time, and the same goes with meguiars 3-step. but i can understand that not everyone wants to take a high speed buffer to their car, so scratch-x is definitely one of the best products to fill in scratches but be prepared to put a block of ice on your hands after lol.
oh as for the wax... there is no real point in layering nxt tech wax because it has cleaning properties so you cant really layer it. if you layer it you are pretty much stripping off the old nxt and applying a new layer. so if you are only interested in OTC products i would throw on a layer of nxt and then another layer of some sort of canauba based wax. |
