HUGE rock chip!

I heard a loud BANG. I knew it hit a metal panel on my car. When i finally got to school, i could take a look and OMG. I peeled of some paint. I seemed to have gotten all the lose chips out.

There was no cars around me. There was a bus that was ~10 seconds ahead of me. Probably that guy. I didnt even see the rock, so it was probably hitting warp speed to do that kind of damage.

How can i fix it? It went down to the bare metal. I'm thinking of putting a glob of touch up paint in it tomorrow to prevent it from rusting. Then sand it down to level it. I'm NOT gonna pay to re-paint the whole fender. How long until it will start rusting?

Good idea guys?

touch-up paint should cover it... be careful when ur sanding it b/c u don't want to damage the paint around it... u should be able to buff to get it looking pretty decent...

sorry for ur loss on color... the same thing happened to me... about a month after i got my car... http://www.8thcivic.com/forums/civic...my-fender.html

Yeah it sucks. They should have a law that all busses and trucks have big ass mud flaps. Insurance didnt cover yours? Since it came from the truck, not the ground

i fixed it for free... my manager actually saw my car with that chip/ding and told me to fix it... he even let me get the materials for free... so i lucked out on mine...

Thanks

Sand/scuff BEYOND the chip area? Should i use the brush to apply it? I know for smaller chips, i can use a toothpick. Would scratch-x be good as the polish?

yes, lightly just a bit beyond the area... u can use the brush just be careful when filling it in... apply a few coats of the paint... i.e: apply wait a few mins, apply wait a few mins, apply wait a few mins... until u feel it's about level with the regular paint...

sand area again with 2k grit... then polish by hand... stay away from the edges as much as possible when sanding...

Scratch-X might do the job on smoothening out... but it might not bring back the shine the best...
