The Official "Ask a Detailer Thread"!

There are a few knowledgeable detailers on the forum so ask away!

I'll try to answer as many as I can. Please read through previous post so that the same questions aren't asked more than once.

ill be first!

i was wondering what you would do to the seat and arm rests. because of excessive use, my armrests have started to become 'flat" and harder. i was wondering if theres some kind of cleaner/conditioner to use.

LOL @ WWRD!

Well since my Si had leather I haven't been able to play around with the cloth materials on the Si yet. You could try a cleaner and maybe rubbing over it with an upholstery brush but honestly I don't think there is anything that can make it like new again. It's simply worn, not dirty.

Is it ok to polish my stock Si wheels, when I clean them they look pretty good but it seems that they have lost a little bit of their shine, I have 12.5k on the clock, and if I can polish them what do you recommend.

I would say a cleaner wax like ColorX should be good. You may want to clay them first though. Make sure they are cool to the touch first.

They don't have any scratches do they?

There are a LOT of good products on the market. Just about everyone will give you a different answer when you ask them what's best. Meguiars is by far the leader in the market and that is what I recommend to eveyone.

For scratches I would use ScratchX. Here is a good link on how to use it.

No scratches so the clear is in excellent shape, they still look brand new. I'll try the ColorX, thanks

LOL, Well I wax every other time I wash but I'm OCD. :)

It will depend on the elements your car is subject too. I'd say once every other month but I personally would not go that long. If you park outside and live in a sunny state or the Snow Belt I do it more often. Cars simply look better with a coat of wax after washing, even if you just waxed it a week prior. At the very least I use a detail spray after I wash.

Hope this helps....you should try the new NXT 2.0

I used it a long time ago but it was on a lighter colored car. I guess I can't say anything bad about it. It went on and off easy and felt smooth. Are you looking to buy it because it says it lasts a long time on the bottle or just becasue someone else recommended it?

ever heard of Heller Glanz Carnuba Cream for boats / etc. I'd like to put the hardest, strongest protection on my TL-S's front bumper to protect against tiny rock chips...

i have Mothers carnuba at home, don't know if it will give it strong enough protection...

I've heard of it but never used it before. No wax is going to help from rock chipping though. Clear Bra FTW when it comes to chips.

Ohh well I've got one. Prolly gonna need a picture, but I'll try this first.

Few months ago I noticed a quite large bug that had hit against my hood and splattered on it. Right when I saw it, I cleaned it right away. After that, I noticed an orange spot on my paint that will NOT come off. Tried claying, waxing, cleaning, nothing. It's not like it's on the paint, it looks like it's in the paint. Almost as if it was ink or something. Ever hear of anything like that?

Well I know some bug guts can eat right thru the paint if not taken off right away (love bugs). Any idea how long it was on there? I can take a look at it in June if you like.

Wonder what he ate for lunch?

The bug probably drank some orange Kool-Aid or was playing paintball with orange balls before he went to the great bug swamp in the sky.

All kidding aside, that discoloration indicates that an enzyme in the bug possibly ate through the clear coat, causing the discoloration.

I am going to leave this to Rasky, but I am wondering what would happen if you put a little bleach or Hydrogen Peroxide on a Q-tip and gently swabbed the area?

What do you think of the UDM?
My budget allows for something in the price range of the UDM/PC only.
