Is Rallye Red clear coated or not?

Hello all,

The subject says it all--does anyone know if there's a clear coat over Rallye Red? My eyes tell me "no" but I don't know how to tell for sure.

Really? I was looking at the red EX that my girlfriend just bought and the paint's really orange peeled and looked like maybe it was just paint to me. Since it's not metallic it's really hard for me to tell if it has a layer of clear or not. I guess we'll probably need to confirm with the dealer or something.

Most I've seen have pretty bad orange peel.

I think almost all cars today have clearcoats. Yes the civic does have a clearcoat. The way to tell is when you wax/polish the car your pads turn the color of the paint if there is not a clearcoat.

Non-metallics are often not clear-coated in my experience, and I don't want to wait until I get an abrasive polish to discover what we've got--I was hoping to buy some Zaino and they have two different polishes--one for clear coats and one for non-clear coats.

I wouldn't trust the dealer to know. My dealer told me that I needed to buy their paint protection package (I didn't) because the car did NOT have clearcoat.

This is on a Fiji Blue Pearl metallic and yes, it's clearcoated.

The best way to check is as suggested and take a cleaner wax and try it on a relatively hidden surface - under the front or rear splashpans is a good place. Don't try under the hood or trunklid as they usually have lousy paint on them anyway.

that is why i never wax my car. I figure that since the clear coat is so thin and the rubbing one does waxing will slowly over time remove the clearcoat.

So you want to protect the clearcoat by NOT waxing?? yes, Waxing your car will take a microscopic amount of clearcoat off, but it will save 100 times as much. I am sorry but I totally disagree with you, if u want to preserve the clearcoat you need to wax or protect.

Every car has clear coat on it, I work in a body shop I would know. Clear coat comes in different forms and varieties. Waxing doesnt harm your clear but forms a protective seal on top of it. The harsh weather takes its toll on the wax first and then eats at your clear.
