Brand New Car...detail right away?

Hello,

I will be grabbing my Nighthawk black pearl SI very soon (I live in guam and had to buy it in the states and have it shipped here.. they wanted 36,000 usd for it here...) And was wondering if i should go ahead and detail it and if so what steps should i include/omit considering its brand new?

Also if i bring it to a place to get it detailed what should i expect to pay?

Is there anything i should do in addition to detailing it to make sure it is protected from rust (bad salt water air..) and crazy UV rays.. also it rarely gets below 80 degrees (usually around 85+ even in december).

Yes i did a search on this and only found info saying yes go ahead and do it you don't have to let the paint cure or anything of that nature.

Any help is much appreciated, thanks in advance!

You should tell the dealership to skip the detailing part on their end. Just tell them you'll detail it yourself. With dozens of cars a day, they're generally in a rush to get your car out of there, even if it's new. As for detailing it, you can wash the car with Dawn liquid detergent soap to strip the car of any protectants it currently has on there. Following that, clay bar it, wash it again with proper car shampoo, apply polish, wax and glaze. Use microfiber mits. Use different mits for your wheel wells and wheels vs. the whole car. By the way, the fact that it's new doesn't change anything. The paint is baked from the factory. It's not like a body shop just painted it.

You can rust proof the car to prevent rust or corrosion. I personally would recommend a shop that specializes in something like this as opposed to getting it from the factory (expensive). You can tint the car to prevent UV light and sunlight from getting in - trust me, with a black car, you'll want this!

im not sold on the rust proofing and have never bought that option
even aftermarket. the car already comes with rust proofing and even
warranty. you expect to keep the car longer than 5-6 yrs? then
perhaps have a specialist look at it when the car is a few years old. rust
proofing only works on areas that are coated... you run over something
and remove that coating it will rust in that area. people tend to think
you 'rust proof' it, it will be rust proof forever. no.. you need to have
it looked at on a routine basis to check for any signs of wear on the
materials, scrapes, just as you would on regular maintenance items.

another sideeffect is that a poor job rust proofing can clog drains.

as for detailing immediately after purchase, i would recommend touching
the paint to see if the roof/hood/trunk area has any contaminant build up.
i usually have to clay my car as the cars's been sitting outdoors
while in inventory. also the residue from the white protective vinyl
sometimes remain on the car. some claying, spot waxing is good until
the dealer wax wears off. then do a full detail a few weeks later. :)

I just Googled "Guam" and you guys are located in the middle of ... no where! I really like Meguiar products. The NXT stuff is easily found at local stores here, not too sure about overseas. There are also brands such as Zymol, Zaino, etc.

Yep :) there is only honda dealership on island...when I first set my heart on a SI i went to the dealership here thinking I could just be in and out in a day with my new car... wrong.. they had one coupe and the sticker price said 36,000...without navi or anything..plain jane.. So I asked What it would come out to be after all the discounts etc... Yea, 35,000... So I called my brother which is a honda dealer and told him I wanted one...Mailed him a power of attorney and a blank check and a list of the minimum stuff I had to have on it...Two days later he called me to tell me that one would be coming in soon and that he would be using my check for the deposit..

A few weeks after that I got a call saying that the GM already worked a deal and someone else had already put a deposit on it. I was of course pissed beyond belief. A few days after that I got a video taken from a cell phone of a prestine NHBP SI sitting on a truck, Followed by a call asking if I was willing to cut a check right then and there.. I said DO IT! The guy that put the original deposit on it was trying to crawfish out of the deal and only wanted to pay 200ish below invoice so needless to say the car was sold to me right then and there :)

After that it had to be shipped to me :) Which i am still waiting on.. cool thing about it is the anticipation.. bad thing about it is when it was taken off the truck it had 7 miles on it.. when it was turned into the shipping yard it had 250 miles on it because the dealership filled the tank and it could only be shipped with a quarter of a tank or less so the gas had to be used

I haven't even been able to see the car i paid for much less sit in it or drive it (I have driven the 07 si's though) so im really stoked! Bad thing is when it gets here which should be by the end of this week I will have to pay an additional 4% tax on the total OTD cost even though i already paid all the taxes back in the states..

Sorry to give this whole 3 page book on something so simple but my point is this, It has been shipped all over the world.. from the factory to the dealership which is in the south, to california where it was loaded on a boat and from the boat here... so i want to make sure its really taken care of :) My next point is I don't really want to buy products locally like wax's and such because of the price.

Do you think i need to get polish and such or do you think i would be safe doing this...

Wash
Claybar (probably need 2-3 of them because of all the shipping.lol)
Wax

I guess what I am looking for is for someone to hold my hand and say, buy this product this product and this product...

Once again i apologize for asking the same newb questions over and over. I am just extremely anxious and want to make sure my investment last through this tropical bullshit And thanks again for all the replies.

That's fine. The important part of the process is the wax. Your car is going to look like it died following the wash with liquid dishwashing detergent. Don't be surprised. Then you'll bring it back to life with wax.
