Unhappy Touch up gone bad.

So I suck at touch up. I tried using dupli-color pens/brushes.

I had primer, NHBP base, and clear coat. As well as 1500 Grit paper and water. Also 3M scratch and swirl removal.

So I have quite a few dings, and imperfections on my car. I tested it out on a few spots first, using the DIY in this forum plus a DIY on a few automotive touch up webpages. yeah. Didn't work too well. I made it worse. As it is, I have 2 spots on the rear quarter panel that are now about the size of a quarter that is really bumpy with basecoat, cause I just can't do it smoothly with a brush. And I have a spot the size of a quarter on the bottom of the trunk lid that I sanded down after several messed up attempts.

I just have no patience. And now I'm contemplating if I should use spray from this site. I'm a bit better at spraying, but i still can't sand worth a shit.

Or should I just take it to a body shop.

How much would they charge me for those 3 spots, plus 3-5 dings on the doors from other cars?

i live in Chicago BTW

i feel your pain... nhbp is so hard to keep "flawless"

if its gotten to the point where its a really bad eye sore, i really suggest bringing it to a professional, before more grief comes out of this.

good luck and happy 'n sir!

Any black paint is insanely hard to keep nice, let alone repair. Youre better off bringing it to a pro.

Did the tutorials recommend using a toothpick instead of the brush to get smooth results? jw

I actually bought some touch up paint before reading up on filling dings and what not. I ended up just covering the chips in my hood with the paint... Not a spectacular job since it's not really filled (you can still see a divot), but you wouldn't notice that it's there unless you looked...

Personally, I don't think that it would be worth it to bring to a professional because it's most likely gonna cost you... Good luck dude...

you can probably remove the touch up you did using some mild polish
like ScratchX. fresh touchups are soft and will usually just come right
off with some mild polish.

then decide whether you want to reattempt or have it professionally done.
dings should be taken car by PDR techs in your area. (and no, i no longer
do PDR for locals as i dont have time).

the spots are just too big now for a toothpick or a brush. it needs to be sprayed.

i don't really have anynoticeable dings(indents). only noticeable marks.

im off friday and i might get an estimate from O'hare Honda, as well as private shop, Honda Acura Auto Service in Chicago.

gives me a chance to go to the dealer and have some talks about refinancing too :)

the new touchup ball point pens work pretty nicely on a round chip if
the chip is bigger than 2mm and smaller than 5mm.
