Water spots and Claybarring/waxing.

Yesterday I went out and bought megiuars car wash, a bunch of MF towels, a chamoise, mother's claybar kit, some rain-x window cleaner, and megiuar's NXT ultra wax (something like that).

Anyways, I washed down the car (I found 3 rockchips, never washing the car again ;( I thought my car was a rock-chip virgin) and all these black dots on the car that will NOT come off. I'm praying to God that the claybar gets em, but I'm doubtful.

Anyways, I washed it down and then something came up and I wasn't able to claybar/wax yesterday. The chamoise turned out to be awful.. it was too windy out so I could lay it down flat on the car and sheet the water off. Also, I couldn't even figure out how you're supposed to do that on the sides of the car, I could only get the top/hood. I tried blotting off the rest of the water but that was a failure.

I now have major water-spottage on my car, and I would like to claybar/wax tomorrow morning. Question is, can I just spray the detailer and claybar right over the waterspots, or should I wash the car again and try and really dry it this time?

Ideally I'd like to just claybar and wax tomorrow, but if I have to clean it, I guess I'll do it the right way.

Thanks all

You can just claybar over the water spots. Heck, if they're all over your car, it'll be a good way to see which parts you've claybared and which parts you haven't!

I wouldn't recommend claybarring when the car is filthy, but just washed and dried is perfect (even with some spotting -- the claybar will take them right off).

Awesome thanks a lot

That's exactly why I left the waterspots all over the car (to see where I've claybarred)... we'll just go with that

That's actually a pretty good idea...may try that sometime.

Wash your car with dawn soap first so you can take out the dirt and other stuff like old wax.

That is uneccessary for a practically new car and they're just water spots.

you should rinse off your car before you claybar...you dont have to dry it though. most clay bars say car wash/water can be used as a substitute to the spray lubricant...so i would just give the car a good rinse and start claybarring.

Agreed. I always use soapy water as my clay lube since its dirt cheap and way easier to work with then QD or clay lube. Spray lube is a great solution indoors, i.e. a garage, but if your outside, who cares. Dawn or any car wash shampoo makes a great solution and just use more than you normally would for a wash.

Clay is also much of a water spot remedy. Thats what the polish steps are for. If you have hard water spots, clay will help to break up the contaminants that caused them, but polish is the money step.

As said before in this thread, as long as the car was just washed a second wash would not be neccesary, even less so if you are using car wash soap as your lubricant.

Good luck!
