touch up paint

there's some small scratches at the side of my car ... so i bought some touch up paint at the dealership. how do i apply it? when i apply it , you can see where i have applied (ie. not consistent) .. you can see a thicker layer compared to the unscratched area . am i supposed to apply it, then wait for a few minutes and wipe it off ? would it be a better idea to get a smaller art brush cuz the one supplied in the bottle is quite big.

the brush that comes on touch up paint is crap. my way of touching up is...
1. get any wax off teh paint in the immediate area.
2. put one thick layer on to try and full in the scratch and then wipe it over with my finger to get the paint off the non scratched area (a paper towel will just soak up any pain that is in the scratch) the trick is to get all the touch up paint in the scratch and not on the sourrounding paint.
3. the first coat of paint should pretty much fill the scratch, after that just put a few small thin coats so that it looks ever so slightly raised from the rest of the paint. (it will dry looking even)
4. after the scratch is filled in to your liking, let it dry for a full 24 hours and then use some rubbing compound/polish and gently rub the area with it so that it blends with the rest of the paint.
5. when finished, put some wax over it to protect the paint.

some people have different ways of doing it, but this is mine and it comes out to my approval (and i have nighthawk black pearl). good luck

I actually did this 10 mins ago, ScratchX managed to even out the surface alittle. It removed paint where I accidently painted.

try this link: http://autopia.org/forum/guide-detai...nt-clinic.html
about halfway down it shows you a good way on how apply and level-off touch up paint. plus this site has a huge amount of useful info on the "art" of detailing, i recommend it to anyone.

cheers

yah, you should wax afterwards.

sratchx is a polish, means its an abrasive.

also im looking into liquid waxes.. and some of them come with a foam applicator.. is this applicator for 1 time use only? also, is it ok to use a microfiber towel to apply the wax and then use another clean MF to wipe it off?
