Post Detailing Forum: Post your questions, answers, pics here!

Hey everyone, seems lately we've had a lot of detailing oriented threads and questions getting posted in the Mechanical fix it forum, Civic, Civic SI forums and so on. I just wanted to bring folks attention over here to the Detailing forum. This is where you can post all of your questions regarding washing, waxing, polish, paint repair, trim repair, techniques, pics, etc.

Ask and post away!

Its gonna be a gorgeous weekend and finally decided to give my car the love it needs. Bought the following items and this is the order I will be using them....just wanted to make sure its the way to go.

1. Wash and Dry (2 Bucket)
2. Claybar
3. Meguiars Paint Cleaner (Step 1)
4. Meguiars Polish (Step 2)
5. Meguiars NXT or Gold Class (Got them both still undecided)

So headed on the right track? I saw somewhere that the Paint cleaner comes before the claybar, this just didnt make sense to me....appreciate the help

Sounds like a plan to me. I always do the claybar before the paint cleaner step. Makes more sense to strip everything off with the clay bar first and start from there. Between the NXT and Gold Class wax, I do with gold class, I've never used to NXT but I know the gold class has never dissapointed me. Have a nice weekend.

Anyone know how to remove a nasty film from the windshield that even car soap won't take off? it's on the roof as well...some dick threw something of the appt balcony onto my car...some foam...possibly shaving cream or oil of some kind.

I would go ahead and get it cleaned of with a claybar kit and then rewax the painted areas.....it also works great for serious water spots on glass that just wont come off with conventional washing

So I'm planning on claybaring the Civic and doing a 3 step on it, but I wanna also put a coat of meguirs Scratch X. I know I do this after the claybar, but do I do it before or after the paint cleaning (Step 1) part???? Do I wanna get some swirl marks off before I clean the paint, or after I've pulled all the junk out of the paint. Any help???

Go to Wal-mart, Pick up some 3M Rubbing compound, it'll be with all the waxs and scratch removers. After you clean you windows with it use Invisible Glass. The results are AMAZING!!! I wouldnt advise using on your paint though, doenst do shit from what I've seen.

Any suggestions for Taffeta White. I had the car since October of last year. This is my first time waxing it. Is it necessary to claybar before waxing? Do I need a polish after that? Thanks!

It wouldn't hurt to clay bar it, especially if you live in an area that uses salt in the winter. My recommendation is to wash it with Dawn in order to remove what's on the current layer of paint, clay bar, re-wash it with something like Meguiar's Gold Glass and start with polish (optional), wax, glaze (optional), etc.

noob question (cut me some slack, first car worth hand-washing):

After soaping and rinsing a section of the car, do I have to immediately dry it or can I wash the other sections first before I start drying? B/c if I dry it immediately after and then go on to washing other sections of the car, it'll probably get wet again anyways. What process do you guys usually take in washing and drying your car?

Thanks.
