It totally depends on what you're touching up - a chip? a deep scratch?

For chips, wash the area with car wash/soap then clean with a soft cloth and rubbing alcohol. This will remove any wax/grime from the area that would prevent adhesion of the paint.

Use as LITTLE paint as possible on the tip of the touchup brush (like nearly dry). Lightly dab paint into the chip until the area is full of color. Let dry for 10 minutes and keep repeating until the depth of the chip is full of paint.

Let dry about 3-4 days and you can then polish the area with a fine cut compound to flatten any raised surface of the paint a little more.

It takes much more time than simply blobbing paint on, but it works much better...

Don't over use it! I have customers asking me to touch up every little rock chip they have....be better off painting the hood before I'd attempt that. Save it for deep scratches and large chips and follow the directions above. I like to use a smaller brush than what comes with the bottle.

A great tip! A trip to a local art supply store for a very fine tip brush makes touch up duty MUCH easier!!
