Is it inevitable that i'll get scratches using brushes to brush off the snow? I dont have a garage

well... u could try to remove the snow every 30 mins while the snow is coming down... or get a car cover. But i doubt, unless you're scraping the snow off, you'll scratch the paint. What color do you have?

Galaxy Gray.

I live in the northeast so you know the winters suck. And yes... there will probably be ice on the car so i might need scraping. Damnit.

i wouldnt scrape the ice on the body. Just blow the snow off the car. If there's ice on your hood it'll melt in a couple of minutes of driving since it gets hot. And try to park in a parking garage whereever you go since it'll help somewhat melting the ice.

I'm actually excited for the winter, I like how the back windshield and side mirros heat up in my EX. i'm also anxious to see how the car will perform!

if only i had a remote starter!

Well, it's a process where a certified dealer or professional shop lifts up your car, and sprays anti-rust corrosion crap into every crevice and cavity in your car's frame, doors, hood, trunk, basically anywhere water and/or moisture can get trapped.

This past winter I sprayed the Rain-X De-Icer Fluid on the windows, side view mirrors, locks etc. I was able to remove the ice with a dampened microfiber cloth with minimal effort. The sonw and ice that accumulated on the body melted in the sun by the end of the day.

winters are easy. just make sure you get a nice coat of wax like mid summer. then at the last minute wax again. like end of september. this is good protection. I use eagle 1 wet.

you won't scratch with a brush. but do NOT try and scrape ice off your lights with an ice scraper. you WILL scrape the lights. better to have some de icer, or bang with brush. don't srape any of the lights.

also when you scrape off your windws make sure you don't go to the edge. the rubber molding becomes fragil in extreme cold and can break off. so just go up to the edge. or you will srcape off you rubber molding around your windows.

How about washing your car for the winter? I'm going to love the heated side mirror function... I contemplated making a snowball from my freezer and testing it out... but nah.

thanks for the tips. I have eagle 1 wet, but its a very very old bottle that my dad never used.

I have some spray de-icer. It's red. Is it safe for my paint?

How is the brush safe for the paint? People say dont use a brush to wash the car, but its okay to get the snow off?

Thanks for the help

soft brushes are fine for getting snow off. yes a really nice coat of wax last miniute goes a long way protecting your paint. then wax in the spring and it will look great.

don't wash your car in the winter, the doors/locks will freeze.

btw i'm hoping this front limited slip helps out in the snow. i assume it would quite a bit.

Do people just leave it dirty for the whole winter or do they go through the car washes at the gas station i.e. touchless gas station. I've heard mixed responses. They told me those oxidants don't react at cold temperatures, so it's better not to. Then I've heard people still wash it regularly to remove the oxidants, solvents, etc.

i only wash my car if it gets warm, some times we have those days in the 40's. but make sure it doesn't freeze. i just leave the salt on, because the idea is the nice fresh wax job i have protects it. in the spring i wax again and its back to perfect shine.

I've always felt keeping the under carriage clean is the most important thing in the winter. Usually I'll just hose the wheel wells and undercagrriage really good. Its amazin how much sand and salt can build up under there. Also I would be very skeptical about getting any kind of undercoating. Most forms of this end up doin alot more damage then good in the long run. If the undercoating they use dries hard its not good. It will end up cracking and peelng in the future and trap salt sand and water underneah it causing serious rot. The only kind of undercoating I've seen that works is used by UPS on every new truck they buy. I dont know the brand name for it but it is a petroleum biproduct, which when applied is the consitency of a heavy grease and never hardens. This way it never can crack or trap anything underneath it. But being as gross as it is i would never put it on a new car, and it really makes doing any work on the car a mess.

You people have no idea how lucky you are. We get cold enough for ice to stick maybe once a year, twice on a bad year. I would love to not have special ed snowmen.

sorry, not to hijack. continue.
