Cleaning Tints..
Anything in particular that should be avoided? I in the past always used a mix of vinegar & water to clean my windows...
Also, do I really need to wait 3-5 days after they have been applied? I got them done (20%) all around this past Tuesday at around 1:00... the windows are dirty and it's killing me! |

I recommend my customers not wash their windows for 30 days after it has been tinted (most manufacturers recommend the same 30 day waiting period........it most likely says that on your warranty card). The moisture has to dry out and the glue needs to cure and other reasons.
You can use mild soap and water, alcohol based foaming glass cleaners (like Invisible Glass), 1 part distilled white vinegar to 3 or 4 parts water, but nothing with ammonia in it. These cleaning instructions should have been given to you by the tinter. |

^ Listen to Dan, he knows his stuff about tints. I really like Stoner's Invisible glass. It is ammonia free and safe for window tints. It leaves the film smooth and clear.

Depending on the film and how well he squeegees it can vary drastically. Yes, wait the 30 days. IF you MUST do it, don't do it dry. That's even worse since it takes increased pressure to clean the tint. Last edited by darkdan; 07-11-2008 at 02:30 PM. |

Call your window tinter and ask them.
I didn't tint it, so I can't tell you. If I tell you 2 days (and they want you to wait 4), and you roll them down after two days, and one of the peels up you'll blame me. Your window tinter really should have gone over all of this and given you a care sheet. Or did you go to some $99 special with Korean film? |

If it's hot and sunny, 3 should be enough.
If it's cold, overcast, or garaged 24/7 it's best to wait till 5. I use a film called Quick Dry Plus and squeegee really hard. In the summer most of my customers can roll it down the next day. But then in the MN winter sometimes I'll install a full metal film that dries slower and have to tell them 2 weeks! |
