Texas insurance sucks...

The rate are going higher and higher..in this down rate economy...
Saw this on one the local news websites..

"Texas Auto Insurance Increase Takes Effect
POSTED: 12:26 am CDT April 2, 2008

UPDATED: 12:45 am CDT April 2, 2008
DALLAS -- The state of Texas upped the minimum amount of required auto insurance beginning Tuesday.

People with minimum coverage, such as Jennifer Diggs, will have to pay more. She pays $115 a month to insure her 2002 Chevy Tracker.

She said she has had it with higher gas prices and now higher insurance rates.

"I think that everything that's going on with this economy is disadvantaging to hard-working citizens like myself," Diggs said.
Texas increased the minimum amount of insurance all car owners must carry to 25-50-25: $25,000 for each person injured up to a total of $50,000 per accident and $25,000 to pay for the property damage.

Those with minimum coverage will notice the increase the next time they renew their policy.

"I'm getting ready to get my premium probably in about 30 days," one woman said. "I may be in for a shock."

Last year, the Texas Legislature decided the old limits were too low to pay for serious injuries or major damage.

One driver said insurance is expensive but necessary.

"And I'm 24. So you know how that is -- if you're not over 25, it's outrageous," he said. "But what can you do about it?"

Diggs said the increase is just another squeeze in an already tight economy.

"And right now, I'm debating on what I'm going to pay and what I'm going to eat," she said.

For the average driver, the increase will add up to about 6 percent a year."

i may go back to my 96' 4 door!

America should start being like Asia.

Ride mopeds!!! 100+ mpg. No insurance!

Optional motorcycles if you want to pay insurance.

Yea... getting roadkill = FTL

Thats why we need majority of drivers to become moped riders!

Parking space will no longer be a problem!

Insurance here in texas has always sucked though. I remember before I picked up my em2 I was on my way to pick up a Prelude type SH.. All the numbers had been worked out and everything.. But then I got the call from my insurance (while on the way there to sign papers, mind you) and they told me just a hair over $600/month! I can kind of understand why because at the time I was 19 with 3 tickets on my record.. But c'mon man! $600/month?!??

Oh well, what can we do about it? You can either swallow it or just drive a different car. :shrugs:

my brother is in the air force, so thankfully we get pretty cheap insurance. For my 06 sedan (full coverage) and his 02 civic coupe (minimum coverage) we pay about 450 total every six months. Im not sure why my brother hasnt gotten full coverage yet... hes only paying 100 every six months for insurance lol, the rest i have to pay.

That's the economy right now. The prices on everything are going up and we're getting the same or less for our money. The car insurance is one example. Another example would be the price of food is raising and the portions continue to become smaller.

...There is a reason we're broke. That's all there is to it.

My friend had to buy a new car so he bought a Cobalt Sedan because his dad works for Chevrolet for extra income. It's the base model and his current insurance company wanted more for the Chevrolet than they did for the 2004 Acura TL he was driving. Sadly, his parents lease ended so he had to get rid of it. I realize him being 19 and all is a factor, but for a guy with no tickets, it's ridiculous. And here is the kicker; they too wanted $600 a month. He switched companies so it's okay now.

At the moment, I pay about $166 a month for my 2008 Civic EX Coupe in insurance.

LMFAO! That's double his car payments!

That's what's crazy about the whole thing though man.. I stuck with Progressive and picked up a new civic (in 05) and my insurance is/was only $84/month.. This was maybe 4 months later. When I was originally planning on getting an fg2 they quoted me at an exact $10/month increase over what I'm paying for my em2.. But for some reason the prelude sh had retarded high insurance.

I nearly forgot!

My friend who has a 2007 SS SuperCharged Cobalt has no tickets under his name. His insurance with State Farm was $900 every 6 months. All of a sudden, he got a letter saying the rates in Illinois are going up and he has to pay them $1500 every 6 months. As you'd assume, he ditched State Farm and he is now with AIG which I suggested to him and they gave him an excellent deal [$800 every 6 months].

When did the rates go up here in Illinois, mine never changed? I have American Family though........ 65/per month for an FG2 here.

Jersey insurance sucks just as bad. I have to pay $1,500 every 6 months. I'm 20, going on 21, with no tickets or accidents at all. Only good thing about NJ are the gas prices.
