It's pretty new, so I'm not sure if anyone here is going to know the answer. I'll be getting it and I'll review it alone and with the TD (since it's easy just to remove the TD from it's brackets to test ). Unless of course someone else reviews it before me

Not overkill IMO, but YMMV.

Also, as far as best performance as a stand alone, im not sure anyway can say yet -- the reviews will start to come out and we will see.
