Just got a call from the dealer. They said that there is a leak in the hose from the reservoir to the master cylinder and that the slave cylinder needs to be replaced. They are ruling out the clutch master cylinder (in my opinion for now but I'm going to go along with it)

Special order some parts, new fluid, bleed the system and it sets me back a cool $525 + tax. Ouch. I expected the cost to be under $500 but then again I didn't expect any of the above issues. Stay tuned, hoping to have the car back tomorrow but no guarantees.

Anyways, i had to replace my CMC because i could not get into 2nd worth a damn. and when i did that and amsoil trans fluid. i could shift like a boss again. but recent ive been experincing only 2nd gear grinds again and i think its because of stretched cables. but yeah.

I agree and argued that a little but only so much I can do. Needs to be fixed and if I take the car and try to fix it myself I run the risk of frying the clutch with anymore driving which will triple my expense. I'm chalking this up to my first "major" repair bill in the 100k miles that I've put on the car.

Sorry for the delayed update. But here it is:

Got the car back and of course the same issued existed. Once the car warmed up it was difficult to put the car in gear. They replaced the above mentioned parts and I was angry because I thought it was the CMC all along and they kept saying no.

Next day I bring it back and speak with the lead mechanic. He said I agreed the problem wasn't fixed and as much as he didn't want to say it he thought I needed a new clutch. Wasn't happy and found it hard to believe because the clutch held so well. He pulled the inspection plate and was very impressed at how clean the fluids were and such (funny because when he first asked who serviced the car and I told him that I did everything he almost rolled his eyes)

Against my will I agreed to replace the clutch and to my surprise the car feels brand new again. Trans feels great and the pedal is so easy to engage. All in $1,800 later (inclusive of first repair) my car drives fantastic.

Glad you got your car back in working order. With your mileage, you were going to be due for a clutch soon anyways. I had a similar issue with my tranny not going into gear. Turned out that a piece of the housing on the clutch that holds the springs in had actually broken off.

Definitely expensive, probably could have had the job done for a 1/3 of the cost but they had the car already and I just wanted it fixed. I had a good experience with the lead tech too so that helped.

Ditto - nice to have it back in working order. I felt the same way, clutch was going to be needed soon anyways so whatever.

Seen some go even sooner but I attribute that to not knowing how to drive properly. Definitely nice to have the car back, feels brand new, but I'm kinda of trigger shy now thinking that the synchros or some other aspect of the transmission will go next.

At almost 110k (I put over 100k of the miles personally) I think I'll be looking to get rid of it...

So OP, did you ever have your cmc changed out? I'm having the same issues of difficulty shifting into first and second gear (08 fa5 w/ 82k miles). It's at the point where I need to do something about it, along with the damn clutch clicking/popping issue. Just looking to see if you had ended up installing the em1 cmc because that's what I'm looking at doing. Or selling my car for an 09 dbp with a lot less miles, thanks!
