I just read (on another post here) that the 07 Si will be coming with traction control. Can anyone verify this? Also, how exactly does traction control work?
I dont know about that but it would not surprise me. Takeing apart the dash you see all kind of stuff that is not used and have to wonder what is that spot for...
it will most likely be a cheap TCS...which uses wheel sensor and ABS(which is already there) to brake and reduce throttle(DBW) when wheel slippage is detected
i dont think its traction control its getting, but the new si's will be getting vsa which makes me mad cause us 06 owners dont get it. wonder if the price of the si will go up again and will our si's be worth less

TCS maybe not...but VSA(vehicle stability assist...honda's name for it) is crucial and woudl benefit on EVERY CAR out there.
it has sensors out the wazoo to monitor your cars position, speed, wheel angle and what not and as soon as you begin to slide sideways it will immediately correct it.
Hmmm...I guess VSA would benefit us. I have VSA in my TL, I only see it in action(blinking exclamation point) when the tires are slipping. I don't know about it assisting in other ways, but I wouldn't know.
I would think that VSA would be a bad thing for people who actually want to push the car to its limits and ofcourse those who use the Si to autox unless ofcourse you can turn it on/off when you want.
I am pretty sure the VSA could be turned off. VSA in my TL can be turned off but I think I read somewhere in the manual it will come back on after you pass a certain speed.
Traction control? No thank... Had something called VDC on the G35 and it causing lots of problems controlling the car yourself.
Sure traction control is great and could be life saving for the daily driver but for someone who wants to pull quick turns once in a while it could wreck your car thanks to the traction control. Also you couldn't burn out, chirp, or break anything loose with traction on.
Even turning it off on the G35 it still had some type of traction control that you needed to do some hard wiring to get rid of.
If I'm reading the College Hills Honda article correctly, the Civic may not be getting VSA. The bit in question is this:
"The completion is signaled by standard application of anti-lock brakes (ABS), driver and front passenger side airbags with front passenger position sensors, and side curtain airbags to virtually all Honda and Acura passenger vehicles- from the subcompact Fit to the Ridgeline pickup truck - as well as Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) and rollover sensors for the side curtain airbags on all light trucks."
The boldface part (added by me) is what I question. This could be interpreted as meaning that only all light trucks are getting VSA, not all Honda models.
The graph in that article shows that the VSA is Si only (as in, not other civic models, if I read it right), once it comes out for the '07 model year. Although, I see what you're saying.
Ah well, it won't make me love the car any less...until the 2009 version comes out with just that little bit more horsepower.

i've had 2 vehicles with traction control, always turned it off. The only reason they are putting it on is because the GTI has it, they must be throwing it in to slap them in the face. Personally i think its a waste of money if you actually know how to drive your vehicle.

Depends on your climate. I'd rather have it up here than not, but that's because it gets pretty slippery up here in the winter. Any little thing can help. If I were still in Maryland, though, I wouldn't really care if it had it or not.
But I agree with you, I think Honda's adding it because the GTI has it. That's their main competition right now and VW knows it. GTI vs. Si coupe and GLI vs. Si sedan.
This angers me to no end. Why couldn't they let the people who bought the first year enjoy their car for a little longer instead of saying "oh if you just waited a year you could have had THIS!"

I had traction control (ASC) on my MINI Cooper S. The FIRST modification I did was to add a circuit to turn it off automatically whenever the car was started.
Rain, snow, didn't matter - it was off.
Try going up a loose gravel uphill driveway with it turned on sometime - you can't do it because every time the tire slips it cuts engine power. Same with snow - if the tires slip engine power gets cut - at least in the MINI iteration of it.
Oh, and when it was turned off, I had a nice yellow warning light constantly staring at me. :banghead:
That was actually on my short-list of questions to ask before I bought my Si. If it had some sort of traction control and if so, could it be turned off.
I hated it on my MINI and I'll make sure that any car I ever get has a switch to disable it.
I prefer to drive my car than have it drive itself for me.
