A bit disappointed with the si

I took my car on the track yesterday, and did about 10 laps total around a 1.8 Mile road course with 40 min cooldowns every 3-4 laps and now it has loose and spongy brakes and makes weird noises. I feel letdown by this car, being this is supposed to be the sport model, they should have made it be to be able to handle a few laps around the track w/o dying. This is all the more reason we need the civic type-r over here, not this excuse our Si's are.

Brake rotors got tore up

Who isn't disappointed with our falling apart cars? I got a brake problem in the back too that's been driving me nuts for months.

it is a sport model, but its definatly not a track car. im sure some SS brake lines, better brake fluid, hawk pads, and slotted rotors will help you out alot.

but what kind of weird noises you talking about?

/\ true, it's a sportier car, but it's not a sports car designed for track use. You will still have to make some upgrades if you are going to track it. As you already found out brakes should always be your first mod before a track day or you will quickly ruin the stockers, they are designed for the street, not a track.

I couldnt have said it better! You could get away with auto x'ing but full out
track duty is rough on most cars. Even on my STI and Spec b I upgraded brake lines and pads for track duty!!

scored pads and a scraping sound? check between your pads and rotors for any debris...or it could be you need new pads.

Well, if you are disappointed with the Si in the track, just get a Ferrari and problem solved...

You need to have the rotors machined, if its even possible and you need new pads. I would also change your brake fluid, you probably boiled it.

Since day one it has been WELL-KNOWN that the Si tends to suffer from brake issues on the track.

The same thing happened to me on my old tsx. Ur brake pads are shot and its just metal rubbing on metal. U need new brake pads, and hopefully they can machine the rotors, or if not u will have to get new rotors too.

I'll have to admit, after driving the subie XT a year, the braking performance is better. I can see brake upgrades to the Si being a necessary thing for anything above a daily-driver.

I would think that tires would also be an issue on the track. The all season Michelins are clearly a compromise, designed for the street. Those brakes sure look like they were not designed for that abuse.

The stock brakes can fade when driven aggressively for a while (ie, the Dragon)

The stock brakes were NOT meant for track use. The stresses that occur at the track are exponentially greater than even spirited driving.

The Si is a sport model, but it is a sport model of Honda Civic for crying out loud. It's still an econobox at heart. You can't expect to take an economy car out to a race track and expect the brakes to hold up. Sorry if that is an unpleasant surprise but it is reality.

Even pads like Hawk HP+ are pretty resistant to fading but will succumb to track conditions before long.

If this is going to become a regular thing I would suggest you get a BBK or at least upgraded rotors, pads, and fluid.

Please don't blame the Civic for your lack of foresight and don't claim everything would be so fine and dandy if we had a Type-R stateside. The Mugen costs thirty thousand dollars and it barely has any performance upgrades aside from a "Mugen variant of an HFP" suspension. How much do you think a real Type-R would cost here? Let me give you a hint, a lot more than it would cost to make your Si perform similarly.

So just be glad you got a great performance bargain for the money and if the brakes aren't up to snuff for you, great news, money can fix that.

Were your pads really worn out prior to going to the track? That looks like you got something stuck between the pad and the rotor. I had a ep3 si that I auto-xed monthy for 3+ years w/ 80k miles on stock pads and rotors and decided that I WANTED to change them for more aggressive braking and the stock pads and the rotors still had plenty of life left in them. So it sounds like that particular corner (or was it all the rotors???) of the car had something wrong with the brakes prior to your track day or like I said before that there was something stuck between the 2.
