Popping the clutch?

Can you pop the clutch to start the Si if your battery is almost dead? I tried once a couple of weeks ago and was completely unsuccessful. If anybody has done it successfully, what gear were you in? I tried 1st and 2nd and couldn't get it going. Now that I have a remote starter it makes it really easy to leave your lights on since I exit the car while it's still running (and therefore it doesn't chime if your lights are on). I'm sure I'll kill it again at some point.

1st gear should work, but ease it in.. no popping... you just need someone to help you push it along until the first combustion cycle ignites.

EDIT: that.. or you could just make sure you turn the lights off.

The remote start may not let you push start the vehicle, check with the installer.
By the way, remote start systems are illegal on manual transmissions cars.

I don't know why it would be illegal in Chesapeake, but in Quebec there ain't problem about it. The only thing is that you can't install one on a manual convertible car, like a jeep or a convertible mustang. That's it

I live in a different country than you. We have different laws. The business I manage installs remote starts on a daily basis. A professional installer is forbidden by law to install a remote start into a manual transmission car.

That may be a Virginia specific law, as there are auto-start kits available specifically for manual transmissions. However, it IS illegal to bypass any automotive safety mechanism such as a neutral safety switch or clutch switch in order to install one.

Most professional installers won't install into manual transmission vehicles due to the liability involved - not because it's illegal.

Exactly, to do the job you HAVE to do the bypass on all of the kits that we install so it is illegal. However if someone makes a kit that does not require a bypass then you are correct in those cases.

My friend had a remote start on a Pontiac, one day they left it in 1st gear and the car went straight into a pole... I would install one on my car because I know that I always leave it in neutral... But some idiots in my family love leaving it in gear which pisses me off because Florida can't be any flatter so theres no need to leave it in gear if the e-brake is on.

it is, i read it in this book and it said something about how you can drive really really slowly in 2nd gear before the engine stalls so this would be ideal.
