Exclamation Hail damage

I got a bunch of hail damage last night. i was at work watching my car get nailed by golf ball sized hail that when it would hit the pavement it would bounce 7-8 feet back into the air. I told my boss my car was more important then my job, and i left before it got worse.
Thank god i left when i did, it only got worse. So i have 2-3 hood dents, 9-12 roof dents, 2 on top of the trunk and one huge one on the back right next to the honda emblem. and 1 on the side that ive seen there might be more.
the car is an 08 fg2.

insurance deductible is 250 for comprehensive. should i make a claim? if i do then i get it fixed will it show up on carfax?
im getting two quotes this afternoon and an allstate agent is gonna come inspect it soon.
what do you think i shoud do?

definatly make a claim. it shouldnt raise your rates, and it will be way more than $250 to fix.

That has got to be the worst feeling in the world. I get paranoid when people park too close to my car. I would probably have a heart attack watching my car getting pelted with hail.

Get a qoute, then see if a CF hood and trunk are cheaper than repairing or replacing with OEM...

I feel your pain man! NC here too. Huge storm last night. Tornado touch-down about 10 min away from where I live. Scary stuff. Luckily hail only lasted about 5 min, none were larger than a nickel. I was sitting there at the window risking permanent eye injury making sure my baby wasn't being destroyed (stupid I know, insurance is there for a reason).

Good luck getting that claim in and all those damn dents fixed. I inspected mine closely this morning and im pretty sure there is no damage.

Sorry again. F*cking weather is out of this world lately.

EDIT: Profile says I'm in Raleigh. Home for summer. OBX. Beach. Tornadoes at the beach omgwtfbbq?!?!!111

You might be surprised butting dropping your comprehensive to $0 doesn't raise your rates that bad. Its the collision deductable That can really shoot your rates up if you lower it.

That sucks dude. I took major hail damage last spring. They PDR'd everything and because they make so much money on PDR's the shop actually covered my $500 deductible for me. Mine came out to $2500 or so of damage. The PDR took it all out with no signs of damage, but I've had creaks and rattles in my headliner ever since.

thanks for the replies guys. i got two quotes today. one from a local (non professional looking) place that does good work and the guy said he could do $1342 and thats no pdr. he said he didnt like it because it leaves ripples and rust on the paint over time. i dont know how true that is. then a well respected shop quoted 1200 for all pdr. it sucks cuz most the damage is on the roof and trunk. id love to get a cf hood but theres just not that much damage on it compare to the rest so i know if i told them id worry about the hood myself theyd only knock like 100 bucks off the price.

this sucks. pdr or pop and respray? im thinkin pdr... the only benefit from the non pdr guy was that hed give me 150 back from my deductible

what do you think i should do?

edit: damage on no major body lines btw

and my previous estimates were wrong, all clean theres 30-40 roof dents, 20-30 trunk, and 7-8 hood, 1 -5 quarter panel

Sounds like a perfect job for PDR, but make sure you don't have any creaks in your headliner afterwards. Another thing to note... I took mine to a "well respected shop" too, but you're going to probably be in the same boat as I was... When there is a ton of hail damage in an area the shops will subcontract the work out to these migrating workers that just follow hail storms around the country. The guys that did my car were all from Oklahoma, even though I took it to the most reputable shop in town. They did a nice job though. But either way, know who is going to do the work ahead of time.

Make sure that the insurance company has the body shop you use on the their list. Most of the insurance companies will give you a lifetime warranty on the work as long as you use one of the shops that they have a direct agreement with. I would reccommend that if you can get the whole car painted, do so, if they just paint the damaged panels then after a period of time it will be obvious even to the untrained eye that the car has been painted, even with blending. Unfortunately, the trained eye will know its been painted no matter how good the paint job is.
Sorry about your luck, now don't make it worse by trying to save a few bucks, find the best shop you can that's on the insurance companies list.
