now one quick question for the 8th...

i was reading a post about misshifting at high rpms and it sparked a question in my mind. although i never have buried the tach or revved to 9k+ i have put it into the wrong gear about three times under normal driving and the rpm went to about 5k- 5500k, it gave a little jolt but nothing really bad. i would assume that thats not going to cause a problem because its not nearly close to burying the tach, but i would like to hear from on eof the experts on the board. the reason is i deliver pizza and it gets frantic so thoughts are in a different sector of space sometimes. i would just like to know if its going to be a problem in the future or will i be ok becasue the si is the first car that i have had that i plan on keeping. thanks.

Mis-shifting to 5-5500K, isn't the end of the world. Its just a little hard on your clutch since you were expecting it and didn't get a chance to rev-match.

Yeah, it's not really going to do much harm, it just feels real bad since the car jerks since you are not expecting to be downshifting and the engine has instantly revved up.

Your just prematurely wearing out your clutch and/or transmission. You didn't do anything to anything just yet, but you need to slow down and shift correctly. Its not that hard to do and as you do it more and more, it becomes second nature.

You're a better man than me. From the time I was 18, to 22 I delivered pizzas in my 1988 Civic hatch, and totally ran that car into the ground just through work.

There is no way in Hell I would put that many miles on a virtually new Si. Your car is going to take a major beating the longer you stay at that job, and gas prices aren't going back down. You want my 0.02? Start looking for a new job bro.

As others have said, jumping the tach from 2k to 5k isn't bad for your engine, but it's hell on your transmission/clutch. Maybe just practice shifting for a few hours until you can't miss!

Not bad for your engine if you hit red line, it's if you pass red line you may see some engine damage. I think past 10k I'd bet on some bent valves.

As far as your clutch, if at anytime you do not rev match, you are wearing it at a faster rate than if you do.
