I don't drive my Si like a grandma and I live in the 4th largest city in the us fighting traffic twice a day. I would say I am doing 65% city 35% highway, I average 29.x. On long trips I can easily hit 32mpg. The key is acceleration and change of speed, not so much how fast your drive. If you are steady on the throttle and minimize the amount of speed changes, then the mpg will be up there.

Though I should add those highway miles where I get 31+ are cruising distances. Not just getting on the highway to go to work. Still, a difference that great you'd have to be on it a lot. I get on the throttle aggressively periodically on the highway but usually I end up being pretty consistent with my speed. 22 is close to the lowest I get in the city. 25 is what I get combined 70/30 City/Highway. |

A friend of mine has a 500+ HP GTO. Is he "driving like a grandma" because he's not whipping out 9 second 1/4 mile runs at each stop sign? I NEVER see him driving like a maniac! Many others that I work with have Vettes and other high HP cars and "drive around like grandmas" 99% of the time. They are beyond having to prove themselves at each light and stop sign and have bought the car for themselves. You think they don't ever consider ways to improve their daily MPG? Check out their forums and let me know. |

Another newbie car like mine.. I'm at 1100ish as of this morning.
I've got to get my rear in gear and learn up about service for these cars. Quote:
Lower RPM's (but not lugging) = Higher MPG's = Less drive-train wear = Normal :| fun levels. Higher RPM's = Lower MPG's = More drive-train wear but = Higher :) fun levels. With the six-speed, good conservative acceleration, early upshifts when possible and slow-down anticipation (coasting where possible), I hope to get some great mileage, if I can help it (resistance to get all happy with such a fun fun car). :) Last edited by bsbabcock; 05-08-2008 at 09:43 AM. |

I did my first oil change last night and managed 28 MPG on a 10 mile warm up run that was pretty much all . The key is this was on open roads so I didn't have to scrub off all of my speed for a stop sign or light every 300 yards. Did another 5 mile drive after the oil change (gotta heat up that oil so it will drain into the pan and you can get an accurate read on the dipstick, right? ) with some at the end and managed 27 MPG.I noticed something interesting now that I have my header and exhaust installed. When I keep it in gear after hitting high RPMs and ride the engine back down with my foot completely off of the throttle (this is how I first broke the engine in) I can hear and feel VTEC disengage. I don't remember that before I did my mods. Engine sounds are much easier to hear with the modded header/exhaust! |

I have full mods, P2R Spacer, 2 P2R TBG, P2R IMG, Injen CAI, DCRH, Hondata Reflash and an Apexi WS2 exhaust system and my mileage has been going down. Although I don't track my mileage and hardly vtec anymore, I've noticed that I have to fill up at least every few days.
