The salesperson is just doing his or her job. I work in retail, and when I have to transition people to other products, I can't stand when people are short and temperamental with me. I don't want to kiss your ass anymore than you want to be bothered by me, but I have a job to do, too, you know?

We happen to own an EX and an Si, both with manual transmissions.
The EX is a little better on gas, though I've only had the Si for a week so how much better is debatable. The EX-L is going to be a heavier car and with the auto tranny the gap will be much less. I find my Si to be much more comfortable, but haven't sat in the EX-L for a direct comparison. The sports seats in the Si are very comfortable especially on long drives and commutes. The suspension and handling on the Si are exponentially better than the EX. The EX is body roll city, while the Si actually digs in and performs like it should. The EX shifts weight way too easily and always feels nervous when pushed, the Si on the other hand is just poised and ready for the next change in direction. Power-wise there is no comparison. I live in Myrtle Beach with 100 degree plus weather and high high humidity, so A/C isn't an option unless you want heat stroke. With the A/C on the EX struggles to accelerate in anything resembling briskness... the R18 really needs some more torque to actually work well... get the revs up a little bit and it becomes a little more responsive... but then you're burning fuel like crazy. The Si with the K20 though, is totally smooth, the A/C intrudes a little but the car is still pulling well and for everyday driving and getting out onto busy roads, it's not an exercise in guts and picking the smallest vehicle to pull out in front of. With the A/C off, the EX with the R18 becomes tolerable, but still seems to be lacking a little oomph until you wind it out. The Si on the other hand pulls pretty good until 6K and then it's like someone hits the "Weeeeeeee!!!!" button and it just streaks to the redline. Price wise... they're pretty much in the same ballpark... so your best bet is to go drive both of them, and see which one you want. My wife wants the Si sedan now... |

I find the r18 plenty ok for normal driving and I can even punch it WOT without having to worry about tires breaking loose. So in fact the car is faster in some cases. Since with my old fast car I would have to baby high speed takes offs or look like an asshole trying to spin tires. I sure do miss that torque of being able to just stay in 5th gear and pass a car at 55mph and by the time I pass I would be pulling hard part 90mph.. And I got better MPGs with the diesel. |

I bought an 08 EX-L, in Atomic Blue.... Kept it for 3 months, then traded it in for an 08 Rallye Red SI. I like the leather seats in the EX-L, but the engine and power are way better in the SI. I took about a 5-6K hit to do this. It wasn't the smartest decision I've ever made, but I am happy with the SI. Get the SI! |

if you have more money get the accord coupe with the v6 6-speed. it will kill the si on the straight line and have loads more torque. or if you want a car with accord horsepower but not the price wait for the 4-door cobalt ss turbo charged.
