maintenance minder or BIG BROTHER!!?!

So my oil was at 15% at 3700 miles. Does anybody else agree that using the maintenance minder will just alert future buyers that you drove your car hard? I plan on keeping a full record of my maintenance.

I guess it might be kinda like a black box on an airplane. I must really be babying mine since I just got to 15% today having had the car six months and just now cracked 5,800 miles.

from what i'm told, the minder is mostly related to one statistic: crankshaft revolutions. so the higher you keep the rpm's, the sooner that percentage is going to drop. can you drive the car in higher rpm's without driving it 'hard?' sure. is it likely? not really. but i think it's more of a way to care for the car properly as opposed to see how you drive. *shrug* my $.02

I wouldn't go that far as to call it big brother. It is only a tool that is designed for the super busy life style that neglects to maintain their cars.

It's just a really good system that adjusts your oil change cycle based on actual engine wear, not just miles traveled (which has no fixed bearing on how many revolutions your engine has traveled, and thus the amount of wear on the oil).

OCI is based on Fuel consumption. Not RPMS. Burn more fuel and have shorter OCI. Drive easy burn less fuel and have longer OCI.

Future owners could tell how hard you have driven if you follow the OCI to the exact specs. Since most people are ignorant and change the oil much sooner than required - it would appear on paper that the car was driven hard requiring sooner OCI. But very few people sell cars via private party and then even less buyers would be smart enough to analyze OCI.
