Question 2007 Si Sedan Tire Pressure?

Hi All,

Just noticed an inconsistency between the recommended cold tire pressure in the owners manual and the door jam on my 2007 Si Sedan.

The owner's manual says 32 psi front 29 psi rear (and 35psi front 32psi rear for "high speed driving")

The door jam sticker says 33 psi for both front and rear tires.

I just adjusted based on the "high speed driving" but used 36 psi front and 33 psi rear (i.e. kept the rear as suggested by the door jam, while keeping the fronts 3 psi higher than the rears, as suggested by the manual)

Did I do the right thing?

I figured a bit of over inflation will only help with gas mileage.

Thanks,

-avi

I don't recommend 36psi on the front unless if you're at the track (with turns). 32psi all around will ensure an even wide contact patch on all corners for all seasons.

Over inflation of the front tires could increase gas mileage slightly. However, you will prematurely wear the center of your tire for daily driving. For track purposes, high speed cornering will result in more wear on the corners vs. the center of the tires so the increased pressure may equalize the wear. Think of it this way, tires are more expensive than an extra ~1-2mpg so unless if you live in a city with no red lights (always able to turn at high speed), set it for 31-33psi to ensure equal wear!

any idea why the manual is recommending a difference of 3 psi front to rear (even with the non-high speed driving, i.e. 32F/29R, while the door jam has 33psi all around?

Honestly, I went straight to the door jamb to find the manufacturers recommended tire pressure.

Speculatively, I would assume the answer maybe because our cars have a highly front bias weight distribution (coupe 61/39, sedan 60/40). The front biased tire pressure recommendation maybe to counteract the front biased weight distribution on our cars. Increased tire pressure for the increased load, and visa versa in the case of the rear resulting in an even patch on the road. Again, this is just purely speculation on my part.

Called Honda this morning

The girl on the phone was fairly clueless, put me on hold for a while, and came back with "follow the owner's manual".

When I asked why, she said that this is a front wheel drive car and needs more pressure up front.

This does not quite make any sense to me.

When I asked why the door jam sticker says 33 PSI all around, she said something about the average car...

However, we all know that the door jam sticker is specific to each car model...

So bottom line, I still do not have a satisfactory answer...

You probably should have asked to speak with the manager. You can't very well give up at the receptionist level! Thats the first level!

happened to stumble on a possible answer to the discrepancy between the driver's door jam sticker and the owner's manual.

seems that the door jam sticker have to indicate pressure when the car is at full load i.e. maximum weight capacity.

therefore I am going to follow the owner's manual recommendation for "high speed" driving 35F/32R

32 psi all around is the correct pressure, that's what my door jamb says for all 4

So, you're saying the "guys" who built the car also makes the same sticker that's at the door jam and the "guys" who "wrote" the book is all BS?

I actually played with tire pressure and found that 35F, 32R for aggressive driving works very well. I've experimented with 32psi and 30psi all around and with both setups the front sags a bit when parked.
