Civic SI's have very high residual value

There was an article in the auto section of my local paper tonight. The article dealt with whether people should buy or lease cars, among other things. They had a list of the top ten cars with the highest residual value... here's the list

" Keeping Value
The following cars have the highest residual value at the end of 10 years. All except the Scion keep about 48 percent of their original value, while the Scion Tc keeps 47 percent.

- BMW M6
-Cadillac Escalade
-Chevrolet COrvette
-Honda Civic SI
-Mini Cooper S
-Pontiac Solstice
-Porsche 911 GT3
-Saturn Sky
-VW RAbbit
-Scion Tc
Source ForbesAutos.com"

They must have calculated the value of what they think the value will be in 10 years on some of these cars

Our cars supposedly retain 48% of their value after 10 years? That would be frakin crazy...

I do think that is a bit odd since the Solstice and Sky have not been out long. Pretty speculative. The tC hasn't been out terribly long either.

My guess is when they say Civic Si they are referring to our car and not any of it's predecessors. *Shrugs* Hopefully their predictions hold true.

Makes sense, look at what clean EM1 Si's are going for still. I think they stickered around 16k and one with 60-80k miles still fetches around 9-10k.

That's funny. I remember reading a few weeks ago a couple users who said the dealerships didn't WANT their Si's....

And as for Saturn being on the list...make a quality car, get on the list. You're only going to be seeing more domestics on that list in the near futuer.

Two weeks ago I was at the stealership for some servicing; there were none on the showroom foor and every salesmen was jockin me in front of their customers saying that I have one of the best Honda's to own. I am not sure if that helps resale value but I know that the chic that bought her new EX was pissed when she saw me drive off, I had the windows down when I pulled out from the back and heard her say "DAMN, oh that's the Si" I laughed and drove home!

Regular Si's. The dealer told them that they "weren't interested in taking the Si's: they had too many used ones on their lot to begin with."

I'd say the Sky and Solstice are directly targetting the Miata and crowd for sure. The S2000 is a a lot more expensive than even the topped out Sky/Solstice.

The Red Line and GXP models...260 horsepower? Yes please.

My parents own a pontiac soltice gxp (turbo) and it's extremely fun to drive, HOWEVER, I doubt 10 years from now it'll have great re-sale value for a couple reasons:

1) GM products historically don't have a high residual value
2) The interior of the car feels "cheap", nothing is broken, just doesn't have a solid feel

Who knows, maybe I'll eat my words in ten years, but until then I stand my ground
