will removing manifold cover hurt?

I want to remove mine right now and leave it off for a couple days while i have it painted. Will it hurt at all in any way? I doubt it but just want to make sure since I never see anyone's pics with it off.

I dont see why it would be a problem. I know people who have driven with it off while they were painting it.

I can't see pictures behind my firewall at work so I'm hoping you posted one of the entire engine bay covered in oil after operating it with no valve cover for just a few seconds!

I made a bonehead mistake way back when I had removed my oil fill cap on my Accord, got distracted, closed the hood, drove it a few miles wondering what the heck that new noise under the hood was. I turned into a shopping center to take a look and right then my oil cap rolled out from on top of the engine where I had left it and was quickly run over by one of my tires. Just from the short trip I took I had an ounce or two of oil that was slung on the underside of my hood.

Just cover your engine with a clean trash bag and let it sit until your parts come back painted.

I understand that. My point is that with only a small hole in my manifold cover opened up (the oil fill port) I had lots of oil slung out. Operating it with the cover removed would be 1-2 orders of magnitude worse! Something tells me I'm missing out on this one because I can't see the pictures. Darn network admin

the intake manifold cover has nothing to do with oil... it just dresses up the engine and covers the fuel rail

you're fine, alot of people run without the IMC for looks... personally i think it looks better with it

what color are you going with?

It's purely cosmetic, none of the bolts run into anything that'll affect your car.

Most new cars have those engine covers since it makes everything look nicer and more friendly when looking under the hood.

yup! i knew you were thinking of the valve cover... easy mistake to make

valve cover = metal
intake manifold cover = plastic

this thread has actually inspired me to finally order some blue duplicolor high heat paint for my IMC

Seriously, I've never come across a bigger bunch of idiots EVER.

Some of you should just stay the hell away from cars...scratch that, some of you should go make cocktails with whatever your parents keep under the sink.

and someone else should get the 10 foot pole out of their ass and stop being an prick. Just because somebody is not as mechanically inclined as you would like them to be doesnt make them an idiot. The reason I initially joined automotive forums was to learn, and now that I've got some knowledge I try to pass that on to people who want to learn. If you just like to flame people go to import tuners forum and be an ass hole there.

ha ha you go tough guy...

I wish that some of your mommies and daddies had started you off in a beater car and taught you how to drive instead of sticking you in a $20k car and saying "good luck".
