Yes. They released a bulletin to address (note that address does not necessary mean fix) this problem. I suppose there is no need for this thread to be contributed to anymore.
When I initially made it, my rationale was that there were so many people on this board having problems, that if we all rallied together and stopped American Honda's Customer Service line from saying "We've never had any documented complaints about this" by saying "Well, that's funny, Case Number XXXX and YYYY complained about the same tihng?", maybe something would get done. Unfortunately, it backfired in my face because I expected people to do more than merely complain about the situation. Heaven forbid people take a few minutes out of their time to call and complain and help. People paint me as a whiner, but when it came time to take the bull by the balls, very few people stepped up. |

It's not a recall, for one thing. It's a TSB. A recall would've had higher publicity and forced a fix. A lot of dealerships are STILL refusing to do it by using the "we can't replicate it" rhetoric.
I talked to American Honda several times before this fix was out, and was pretty much told to piss off by Kenitra, the only representative Honda would let me talk to. It took two years for the dealership to acknowledge it for me. And after my fix, it still pops out (especially now in winter). Just clearing up some misinformation. |

I know this thread has been dormant, but I feel compelled to report this:
Brought my 06 si (have owned it for three months.... 36k mi) to have a faulty door latch replaced. Discussed with the service mgr the TSB and problems with my 3rd gear. He had a service tech drive it and immediately told me that they would replace the 3rd gear set. I have had the car back for 2 weeks... and it has been like butter (at least for a honda 6 gear man tranny ). No arguments, no hassle... problem fixed.Brandon Honda (Tampa Fla.) Will report back in a couple of weeks should status change. |

I took my wife's SI to our local Clearwater Honda Dealer.
Car had one week of warrenty left (we've owned it for 3 years, 25k miles) Dealer fixed the car no questions asked. I've had it back for 2 months now and it shifts perfect. I was worried about the "we need a tech to drive and re-create the problem" But my dealer took into consideration that my warrenty was allmost up, and just replaced the 3rd gear set .... no hassles. I wasn't sure if I was going to take it in or not? The problem was never bad but it was definitly a problem. I waited to the last mintue with my 36 month warrenty but finally decided to take the gamble. (The thought of having my transmission taken apart and put back together, worse than it was before concerned me). BUT after missing one or two shifts every other day...... I finally took it in.... I was ready for war! But they fixed it no problem and its great now! Point of my story... its all about finding a good dealer. Autoway Honda in Clearwater did a great job for me. |

Markstudy - I had a very similar dealership experience.
![]() I had the TSB performed on my Si this summer as well. The 3rd gear "grind" was hardly noticable in my car, but the service advisor agreed to have the TSB performed anyways. My car had never popped out of 3rd gear, nor did it severely "crunch" or grind going into 3rd gear. The transmission didn't display any of the "major" symptoms of being in need of the TSB. The service advisor mentioned that cars that experienced those types of aforementioned symptoms were the ones that could *really* benefit from having the TSB performed. FWIW, after the TSB was performed, I noticed slightly smoother shifting going into 3rd. Was it necessary? Probably not, but at least it's done with. Plus, if I ever decide to sell the car down the road, any prospective buyers can be assured that the TSB was completed. |

I just had mine fixed and it was an 08 that did not fall within that range of affected vehicles... After the tech drove it around quite a bit more they noticed difficulty in it engaging in 3rd and 2nd they took a look at it and found that both of those synchros needed to be fixed.

i wanted to gather info from you guys on the car. It seems to me that you guys are upset because the dealer won't change a part because they can't duplicate the issue. A few things pop in my head when i hear that..
#1. When you go to the doctor and you say your leg hurt last week, but they can't find anything wrong, does your doctor do a Knee replacement? If so find a new doctor!!! #2. If this is such a wide spread issue, why is it only a few people posting over, and over again for nearly 2 years? Has anyone ever thought it could be drivers error?? I understand you prolly been driving for 20 years, but this isn't the same car you drove 20 years ago. This car has something called "Technology" in it. If you don't push the clutch all the way down and shift, the it will grind gears. If your not all the way on the clutch and you shift, it would be drivers error... "Surprise!!" You guys need to admit it, it's not a wide spread problem and it's possible for the few people that are having the problem, it may be driver error and Honda is stepping up for you bad drivers and creating a fix. But if you don't know how to drive, then the issue isn't going to go away. |
