All 2008 Si With 3rd Gear or Any Tranny Problems Here

Ok guys. My dealers are telling me that the 08 models are fine. I have a problem with my 3rd gear and yet they're telling me that it's perfectly fine and that the revs hanging is perfectly fine as well. I've asked for a ECU reflash with the new update that is out by Honda but my dealer claims they have none and that my car has the most recent one. I would like to see who here has an 08 and has the infamous tranny issues or has revs hanging for an excessive amount of time please post here. Thanks for your help. I'll start the list here.

my issues are starting. I went almost 2k without any issues. Ive 'popped out' of 3rd gear once and had 3rd gear grind ones, thus far.

Since you're still getting use to your car, it may take a little while to get use to the rev hang. If you want the rev hang to be gone, go for a Hondata reflash. It's around $600 but from what I've read on this site, your Vtec kicks in sooner and it gets rid of the rev hang. As for the 3rd gear problem, I've never had any problems and I'm about to hit 4k miles. Try changing your manual transmission fluid. Oh yeah, how many miles have you put on?

im usually the 1st to post 'search'

... but this thread is specific to the 2008 models. So, IMO, it was fine to make a new thread.

I'm a little under 2k miles and through those times, I have had two 3rd gear grinds. It happened both time in the morning. I'm not sure if it's the cold weather that causes it. It doesn't happen during the day in warm weather.

same here..i'm at about 3900 couple grinds..a couple of times it popped out..all times it was cold outside so i think that might be the problem...let the car warm up fully and it seemed to be perfectly fine..

I always warm up with R/s and have no problems SO FAR... I just passed 2000 miles.. I also have an 08 and asked for the ecu update + tranny fluid and they said 08s have no updates so far. They are however VERY willing to allow me to test drive the car with the manager to show him my transmission symptoms when they do arise so that we can take care of it. I HOPE that our cars came with the new transmission fluid or I am going to be very sad .

not all 08's. i have 4200 miles on mine, no grinding, no popping out, shifting is still smooth as a butter. i even misshifted about ten times haha. i hope it stays the way it is.

edit: rev hang yes, somewhat.

2008 sidan; Just hit 3K miles

- No 3rd gear issues so far.
- Definite tranny whining/grinding sound in several gears at low speeds.
- Very heavy rev hang (gotten used to now and change gears in a way to minimize effect)
- asked for reflash, dealer said no updates
- dealer 'fixed' strut popping from 06 bulletin, but sound still very much there over bumps etc

2008 Sedan

- No 3rd gear popout or grind
- Really notchy re-engaging to 1st from N at a dead stop (To compensate, I go 2nd then 1st before moving from dead stop)
- Had trouble getting into reverse a few times
- I find it hard to get into 6th, seems like I really have to yank down on it. (But still no grind, etc, just stiff to get in unlike any other gear)

I've definately noticed it on my '08 - and if it was any worse I can definately understand why so many people are mad. Gotta be careful with 2nd gear as well. I've got about 6K miles, and noticed it almost from day one. But I don't really think it has gotten much worse. My honest opinion is that many on this board keep driving their cars hard and try shifting as if it were normal, but's it not. You've got to be careful with it. Overall, it isn't a bad enough problem for me to constantly go crazy about it or go to my dealer. I think it just has to be driven a certain way.

I think all these problems have something to do with each other but maybe I'm completely off. Bottom line, it appears Honda built a car that you have to shift slowly and maybe they did that for a reason. Like maybe they built in the rev hang intentionally, so you have to wait that extra second before shifting.

Is this an '08 list? If so, fine, but there's a bigger list (I probably just bumped).

Anyway, my suggestion is to go to a dealer who has a service tech with an Si, because mine is fully aware of the issue, and the tranny fluid fix is only temporary; I can confirm this because my tranny is starting up with the issue again (3rd gear). He's been hounding Honda actively and telling every owner to complain (apparently he's changed out fluid in quite a few too).

Guys, I'm trying to get a list of ONLY MY 08. Please do not post 07s on the list. 07s, please post on the other giant list. This is for 08 only. I want to see how many people have 08s and have this problem. Cause my dealers keep telling me the 08 is fine and there is nothing wrong with the rev hang.
