From EX to Si..

I'm considering selling my 06 EX and getting an 08 Si..

I know the 08's are "New" (sorta) but I was wondering if there were any problems already showing up in the 08's..?

Feedback?

Thanks,

Doug

I was going to buy a LX sedan automatic... I slept on it, went to the dealership and requested to test drive a SI coupe. Lets just say I never had any regrets. I own a 08 FG2 and I love it, if you can take the financial loss, than you can not go wrong with an SI. I've had zero problems with mine. No 3rd grind, no rattle, no burning oil, nothing. Currently at 1500 miles on the odo.

I currently own an Atomic Blue Metallic '07 EX Sedan and I say that you should go for the Si. Personally, I would opt for the '07 because TPMS is just a pain.

Also, if you could, wait it out for a year until the '09s come because a mid-model refresh should be right around the corner. If you fear depreciation, go ahead and grab the 07-08 now but know that it may come with regret.

How is it a pain? All it does is tell you when your tires are low.

because there's a large tendency for there to be faulty sensors, plus if you swap to winter tires or a different set of wheels, you need to mount your TPMS sensor, or you VSA is always on. TPMS light on = VSA on.

It's a nice feature, but I've had a bad experience with it in my 2007 CR-V and we've only had it since October.

I've been looking around for my wife a new (used) car. I've found a few used Mini Cooper S with the John Cooper Works packages for 19-23k. Upgraded supercharger, better heads, new ECU, catback, and some also come with brakes and suspension upgrades. All factory covered parts. And the car has Xenon, heated seats, heated mirrors, climate control, traction control, and a transmission that works.

I'd give them a look.

ugh, another one. Dude, do it if you want to. know that you'll be losing money in the long run. Nobody on the internet can make up your mind for you. just do it and lose money or don't do it and wait for a better/newer car to come out

I'd wait and see what the '09 models are going to look like. I kind of wish I did the same though the earliest we'll see them is around September. I love my Si but you'll be surprised how much "not" faster it is in low rpms, I did expect a little more umph with the car but that's just what you get with that low of torque. But overall it a huge upgrade from the EX if you consider the wheels, suspension, seats, exclusivity, etc.

Looks like your in for a tough decision I mean the only differences are:
1)K20Z3 8K RPM Redline 197HP I-VTEC Engine
2)Helical-Limited Slip Differential
3)17inch wheels and Tires
4)Electric Power Steering
5)Revised springs rates and stiffer dampers
6)Rear spoiler
7)Front and Rear Si emblems
8)Red Tach and Red Speedo
9)350 Watt Alpine Premium Audio System w/ 8inch subwoofer
10)Custom suede Si stiched seats
11)6 speed close ratio manual
12)Sport Tuned exhaust
13)Si rep and heritage
14)Premium gas
...
you have a really tough decision also considering it costs lets see:
19,110 vs. 21,110 starting price most likely:
20,800 vs. 22,850...

I think it depends what you are expecting from the SI. The mini cooper sounds great fully equiped. The SI lacks the torque. Makes it very slow. And can get expensive trying to add gadgets to get full potential from the engine.

I have an 08 si (6k miles) and these have been my probs so far:
Strut popping noise - not fixed yet
Sunroof Rattle - fixed
Rattles - Minor rattles here and there but annoying
??? - i forgot the name but a little hose that connects to the motor next to the pulley was replaced.

and maybe couple other things i can't think of now. Is a great car minus the problems. But try looking around for other cars. Test drive before buying. And think about what you really want and need.

95% of the people have no problems with the Si, so although you have had a case where you have experienced "problems" that is in no way representative of all Si's. The real problem overall is a 3rd gear issue which is being recognized by most dealers. Lack of low end torque means that the Si won't be good from light to light. It also makes it frustrating in daily driving. Once you take it north of 5800rpm then things start to make sense in the car, its a quick car, quick enough to where it will stay with an S2000 up to around 89mph (personal experience), and that is a lot to say. After than the S2000 starts a strong pull on the Si but still, on the street you won't have to much trouble keeping up with alot of cars. Mini Cooper isn't really as practical as an Si, its so damn small. If thats what you want go for it. If you want a car that handles well, is quick and above all is backed by Honda quality and reliability, the Si is waiting for you.

get either an si or a speed3. dont get a mini. its too small and its not considered as a 4 seater. theres no leg space in the back.

If you get a speed three thats the equivalent of using male enhancement to achieve a good sex life. It needs a turbo to keep up with the ricer rockets on the streets, where as the Si has vtec, and redlines at 8,000rpm to result in pure N/A heaven. Also if you get the speed3...bad things will happen lol. We will cry here at 8thcivic knowing that you bought a car that looks like what comes out my ***hole every morning. We would also meditate on how a turd can out pace an Si in a straight line.

That's why i stated "this have been my probs so far" I didn't say this ARE EVERYONES problems. Read up son! I, in no way generalized my statement. You say 95% of peeps have no probs with thier SI, i guess you already took and inquest of all peeps who own SI's and figured that percentage out right?

Okay people calm down. I said the mini cooper sounds great fully equipped in replied to "ryker's" comment. That didn't mean i or that the OP should get one. Shoot, i would love to get an evo, sti or 350z but i don't want to spend so much money on car you know. (at least not now). And yes the SI keeps up with most cars, but trust me, there is no other car in its class that comes close to the SI!
