Good rpm to launch at?

I was just wondering at what rpm do some of you launch ur Si at? I havent really tried but I did a nice one last night at about 3k rpm, not to much wheelspin and great grip. Thanks just curious on what would work best on this particular car.

You don't jave enough information on that post to give you an answer:

Is it stock?
What size rims?
What type rims?
What type tires?

I have a decently modded si but i still have stock tires and the only track i can go to is extremely slippery, they dont even treat the track. I usually launch at 3400ish. if i launch much higher i will literally spin for a second or two and usually im going into second by the time i get traction and my nitrous is kicking in so it makes things worst. If i launch to much lower than that it just kinda bogs

doesnt this hurt your clutch? to get under 7 seconds 0-60, is this necessary?

launch at ~3500-4500. i launch at 4500 or a bit below when i go into race mode. depending on your clutch work you may be able to run mid 14's (stock). ask the guy on the 14 sec 1/4 mile thread. we both shift at the same rpm and run it well.

A tad over 3k here. Its never the same and hard to be consistent, but wheel hop destroys any 0-60 time!

How exactly do you "launch"? Do you mean rev to 3.5k in neutral before you hit the gas?

You should ride out the clutch at about 4k rpm. Dumping your clutch is just going to break something. Plus wheelspin gives you less traction. Static friction is much better than Sliding friction...unless your tires are made of teflon.

when you say "ride out the clutch" do you mean let it out at a somewhat normal rate, instead of just letting it fly out (dumping it)? man, im so afraid that im going to have to abuse the clutch and shit to make it go fast, and thus break stuff yearly.. btw ive never driven a manual, and im still awaiting my car, so perhaps im overreacting, but it seems as tho to get this car to go fast you have to drop the clutch at 4000+ rpms or something, which cant be good for the clutch, syncros, and other things (i dont know much about cars but ive been reading up on manual transmissions and such.. thanks wiki.org and howstuffworks)

Well, yeah feather the clutch to prevent wheel spin but at the same time keeping the rpm (and the torque) up. That way your not putting massive amounts of stress on the drivetrain. Wheelhop puts so much stress on your drivetrain; that's how things get busted. At least with this method you're only wearing out the clutch. A clutch is something that is meant to wear out, just like brake pads.

Anyhow, this is why you don't entice people to race you from a light, wait until you leave the light and let it rev higher and higher keeping beside them....then when you get to about 5500rpm you look over and give them the finger!

Depending on the conditions of the road and temperature I usually launch from 3500 to 4500.

im guessing wheel spin is ok, but wheel hop is where it gains and loses traction repeatedly when you start moving, kind of like how abs feels, but when accelerating? does this hurt automatic transmissions too? i dont see how it hurts anything, your just accelerating and the wheels are trying to gain traction

It's the jerkiness of it that results in short durations of high stress. It's bad for your CV joints, your motor mounts and your transmission.

Think of it this way, a narrow plank of wood may be able to hold your weight while you stand on it. If you were to jump up and land on that plank it might just snap.
