Got the Amsoil MTF put in...

So over my Thanksgiving break I brought my car along with three quarts of the Amsoil syncromesh in to Aamco. Got the ol Honda stuff out and the new Amsoil put in.

I thought it was great at first. Completely fixed the problem I thought.

But slowly but surely it's coming back. It's not grinding or popping out, mind you, but it sure as hell is coming back in full force with the notchy-ness. And I can't STAND it.

Could it be the cooler weather since that time that's causing the extra notchy-ness? What is going on...? Man alive this is ridiculous.. only 9k miles on it and this crap...

Could I have misinterpreted everyone about the Amsoil? Is is only supposed to fix the popping out of gear while the notchy shifting remains?

If there is a mechanical problem, AMSOIL or any other fluid will not fix the problem but may temporarily ease it.

You could run a UOA to see if the fluid is the culprit or if there is excessive wear particles.

Why would mine not be working.... this sucks...
Maybe my transmission really is messed up.
And now it's too late to complain to Honda some more. (Which I've done on many occasions.)

Same with me. Have Amsoil MTF for a year and no troubles summer or winter.

That is why I was leaning to a mechanical problem.. I have way too many satisfied customers to think it would be a fluid issue.

Whenever you go to a Dealer with a complaint, you should get documentation EVERY time. Do not walk out without it !

That could be the difference between a "Policy Adjustment" and a flat out "NO" . It also depends on how you present yourself when you have a problem.

I got the new honda mtf an several months ago. I it was better at first then it started poppin and notching again. Recently i've been concentrating more on my shifting and now weather i shift slowly or quickly its greatly reduced the notchyness and poppin of the tranny.

3 quarts? i hope they didnt stuff all that fluid in there because it only needs 1.8 quarts i think. an overfilled transmission will be just as bad.

That's what I'm thinking. I NEVER had any tranny notchiness or grinds. Maybe some transmissions are built better than others. Maybe human error during the assembly process.

I put Amsoil in at 9k anyways and my car just ran better.

I have a pretty large following that I sell AMSOIL to in a Specic Motorcycle where the 1-2 shift is absolutely terrible in Most of the bikes. I am not going to say that The AMSOIL makes the shift Butter Smooth, but it at least makes a Greatly improved shift.

But as you said, some are built better than others. Some is due to machining tolerances and some due to assemblers.... They have been disassemblng several of those bike trannies lately and they are finding that much of the problems are lessened when they match parts themselves and get rid of some "looseness".

But again, all it takes is a blown shift or two.....

I brought two, but had to go out and buy a third because their pumper thing couldn't suck out the last little bit from the second.

They filled it up until it started running out of the top, then let the running stop and plugged it back up. Is that the correct ammount?

I also noticed it got substantially worse the moment I grinded the third gear. Let off the clutch a bit too early...

Well sure doc I grinded the gear once. It's going to happen every now and then. Would that really screw it up that quickly? Couldn't could it?

There's got to be something wrong it. What possibilities are there?

And after having the syncromesh, is it not possible anymore to go back to Honda's new formulation?
