Thumbs up 92 Degrees and a Loaded Habanero Si

Here in the sunny Sonoran desert it's 92 degrees this afternoon, the perfect temperature to test drive a dazzling habanero red Si, decked out with every possible option except Navi, including ground effects all around and 18" HFPs with low-profile tires.

To say that car is hot, with its awesome shine in the southern Arizona sun, is an understatement. And driving it was no less disappointing. It's the first time I've driven an Si, and I must say: it absolutely rocks! I love the tight 6-speed with its perfectly placed pedals and short shifting, the bolstering seats, the futuristic yet intuitive dash. Mostly, though, I love driving it: how it wants to rev high, how it corners, how wide the smile on my face was. Mind you, this car has only like 28 miles so I didn't push it (and I'm sure the sales rep next to me appreciates that), but clearly it wanted to be pushed. A lot.

In the end, I had to pass it up, because I've got kids and I'm waiting on the Si sedan. And oh yeah, it's also more than $25K (did I mention it's without Navi)! That includes $2,500 for the wheel and tire package. Ouch!

I only wish I had photos to share, because it is an astoundingly gorgeous Si. (I think that about fills up my positive words quota for the day.)

The only saving grace of getting back into my 94 Accord, with its merely adequate 5-speed MT and not-so-gutsy 135-hp 4-cylinder engine, was that I have the new Pearl Jam CD playing.

Had to share. Can't wait until the Si sedan arrives....

I've decided just to trade over to the Sedan when it becomes available.

Really? Or is that sarcasm? Hard to tell on this board sometimes....

Habi is noce but i think its a better color for a accord. Fiji blue is the hottest. Hard to keep clean though

My preference is white, actually. Looks great with the white trim and the darker HFP wheels.

I won't have the chance to get over to that dealership---which is all the way on the other side of town---anytime soon, so here's the next best thing:

From the Honda "Build Your Civic Si" site.

Lol, did you test drive the one at Dobbs Honda? I just bought the white one they had about 2 weeks ago. Those guys will drop the premium if you argue a bit. I got them to drop it (2k).

Yeah, Dobbs. They offered to drop the premium since I'm an "Internet customer," but I need a four-door. If I didn't, I think I would have driven that one home. I'm quite smitten with the habanero red, but like you, still prefer white!

Man, I really wanted a four door, but I couldn't pass up the white one when I drove it. I am weak.

I'm weak, too, which is why I continue to drive other cars while I'm waiting for the Si sedan. Tomorrow, for example, I'm driving a Lexus IS250. Next week I'll drive a BMW 325i. The week after that... who knows? I should have a good sense of all sports sedans by the time the Si sedan comes out, though!
