How do YOU grip the shifter while shifting?

OK. There have been a lot of transmission threads. And I don't want to post "yet another 3rd gear thread". So let's pretend the number 3 no longer exists. Hypnotist: "you're feeling sleepy; third gear no longer exists."

That said, I'm curious as to how you guys and gals are gripping the shifter when you change gears. Is your palm on top of the stick, pushing down? Is your palm against the leather? Do you only push it with your fingertips?

I found myself pushing down while shifting. Sometimes I underhand the even numbered gears with the stick between my fingers and push at the side of the knob with just enough force to engage. I'm trying to adjust my style to the latter.

This might make a good poll, if any of you admins are interested...

Hypnotist: "when I end this post you will wake up feeling refreshed and remember nothing."

I usually grip it like im spreading some meat curtains. I find that it helps Me relax especially since I am so accustomed to that situation.

Around the leather with two fingers. I find myself shifting gently I avoid any grinds or extra notch.

I hold onto it like I'm about to throw Rock. And the knob is about half way up the inside of my hand.

Meat curtains aye. I dunno bout you but the only meaty thing the shifter feels like to me is a deformed penis. And if that helps you relax, hey, not me to pass judgment.

^^ ROFL

Good descriptions, all. Personally, I might soon adopt the "bitch slap" method.

i too, mite adopt the bitch slap method.
especially since bitch slapping eliminates the 3rd gear issue!!!

i usually just cup it, and gently move it up and/or down & side to side

^^ I hadn't seen that particular demonstration. Cool.

Sometimes I practice heel-toe on sharp turns, but that double clutching looks like a PITA to learn.
