I have some issue with 3rd gear every day now--even in 90 degree heat. No grinding, but notchy sometimes. It can be aggravating, but it detracts very little from my enjoyment of the Si. I expect to be enjoying this car when I pay it off.

In fact, I had a 2000 DX with a very similar 3rd gear problem, although it was much more random.

I have heard that a lot of 6 speed transmissions have this 2nd and 3rd gear problem. Anyone else know of others with issues?

i got problems with 1st gear, 2nd gear, 3rd gear, the steering wheel making noise when i turn, clutcl makcing clicking noise....... most likely more to come

I don't see why anyone would not buy a new Si if you're worried about the third gear problem. If you look at the announcement only certain VIN's are effected. My Si was built in February and it's already way beyond the effected VIN numbers. I assume any new Honda won't be affected if it's new. Buying used is a whole other story.

so i went to the dealer today for my 3rd gear issue, the service manager told me the tech couldn't find anything wrong with it, and said maybe i should consider relearning on how i drive stick.

he said there was no notchiness at all, and that i was probably imagining the problem as so many people claim their cars have it.

I'm sure he did, but there weren't enough of them around to effectively get the complaint across. Now the Si is another story plus the Accord 6spd, RSX etc. Being more mass produced, it holds more weight. I hate the fact that I cannot trust the car responding properly. That's the most annoying part. Just my opinion of course.

I don't believe so. There are only a certain set of VIN's that are affected and I don't think anything made in the last 4 or 5 months should have problems.

I just got mine back from the dealer. They ordered the parts for 3rd gear. While in the shop I also mentioned 2nd gear being a problem. The cool thing is that it gave the tech problems when he drove it. They replaced both, no questions asked. Kudos to Honda Marysville In Ohio. I had them hold the parts so i could look at them.

Honda Cars of Bradenton fixed my problem without being able to replicate it. They had the car for three days. It's like driving a new and flawless car

I would say to everyone who is having the issue to try and swap out the mtf to amsoil first and see if that helps. That was one of the first things I did on my 06 si when I bought it and I have never had an issue with 3rd gear.
