Somehow my name got dropped off the list, not sure how that happened as I added myself several weeks ago. Anyway my dealer couldn't replicate the 3rd gear issue so I'm stuck waiting until a better solution comes along. I drive ultra carefully now to avoid popping the gear out going from 2nd to 3rd, but I've noticed the extremely difficult to engage gear can happen even shifting the opposite way from 4th to 3rd. (but always with 3rd as the end point).

I have experienced the grinding in both 2nd and 3rd gear but I must admit that it's sort of "disappeared" a bit for me as of late. I know you guys will think I'm crazy but I've noticed that when I shift in a certain way, the transmission is a ton smoother in those two gears. I can't really describe it as anything else but methodical (not slow) and fluid.

This isn't a fix nor is it an accusation that we are shifting improperly. I'm simply saying that I've discovered a rhythm with my car that seems to severely lessen the amount of times the transmission grinds, hopefully adding to the longevity of the transmission as we wait for a fix.

2% of the users on this forum have 3rd gear issues (assuming everybody who has the problem added themselves to the list).. thats a lot, and im not being sarcastic.. coincidentally that is the same amount i read on some other site, that something like 2% of si's have 3rd gear issues.. from all the crap i have read on here, i thot it was more like 40%.. but then again, do the people who have it pop out 9x a year count? where do you draw the line?

count me in as well...it gave me trouble literally the first day i bought it (only once that day)....i don't have the "pop out" issue..mine just grinds in 2 & 3 like a bastard and occasionally won't let you put it in 3rd...

i bought the car with about 9k miles on it (hey, for 5500 less than sticker price, i figured it wasn't a bad deal) :] the problem is pretty intermittent, but friggin' annoying, just the same...

and as you can see from another thread i just posted in, it's at the dealer right now for it, and they're not doing sh*t about it...not even changing the mtf for me, even though i thought that was a tsb...silly me...

Add me too... From day one, Second and third gear grinding and third was real notchy. changed tranny fluid to full synthetic and still the same problems. Second is now far worse than ever and it is to the point where i cannot turn left in second or it will throw it out of gear on its own.... sad sad sad

Anyway my dealer couldn't replicate the 3rd gear issue so I'm stuck waiting until a better solution comes along. I drive ultra carefully now to avoid popping the gear out going from 2nd to 3rd, but I've noticed the extremely difficult to engage gear can happen even shifting the opposite way from 4th to 3rd. (but always with 3rd as the end point).

I know you guys will think I'm crazy but I've noticed that when I shift in a certain way, the transmission is a ton smoother in those two gears. I can't really describe it as anything else but methodical (not slow) and fluid. This isn't a fix nor is it an accusation that we are shifting improperly. I'm simply saying that I've discovered a rhythm with my car that seems to severely lessen the amount of times the transmission grinds, hopefully adding to the longevity of the transmission as we wait for a fix.

onesweetsivic Member Join Date: Apr 2008 Posts: 54 iTrader: 0 / 0%	count me in as well...it gave me trouble literally the first day i bought it (only once that day)....i don't have the "pop out" issue..mine just grinds in 2 & 3 like a bastard and occasionally won't let you put it in 3rd... i bought the car with about 9k miles on it (hey, for 5500 less than sticker price, i figured it wasn't a bad deal) :] the problem is pretty intermittent, but friggin' annoying, just the same... and as you can see from another thread i just posted in, it's at the dealer right now for it, and they're not doing sh*t about it...not even changing the mtf for me, even though i thought that was a tsb...silly me...
