squeaking upon engaging clutch

This is kinda weird but there is a pretty loud squeaking noise when I engage the clutch in first and second gear. The squeaking goes away after the car is warmed up and driven for a few miles but the squeaking is very loud when the car is first started. The scene is

1. I start the car
2. put it in first
3. let go of the clutch
4. squeaking begins and stops after RPM's are a bit higher

the squeaking also continues while moving slowly in first gear.

Does anyone else have this strange noise on their si? Upon searching, some reportedly say its the exhaust hanger and some say its the actual clutch. What is going on.

my FA5 si has 4500 miles and I admit that I have drove a bit "spiritedly" but nothing completely crazy.

i have 5500 miles.... doubt itl explode.

there are people here who drives harder than us..... wel get to know it.

the solution to the problem would be..... shift gear with higher RPMs.... at 4 or 5 ish.... see if it helps..... works for me.

You can search "squeaking clutch" or something of the sort here in the forums for a good quanity of answers but they all seem to be leading in a different direction. Some say the problem was fixed after they replaced the clutch, and the others say its the exhaust hanger? It has to be one or the other... I hope its not a bad case the placebo effect in play when someone attempts to fix the problem.

I have the same problem. I am going to go with the answer that it is the exhaust hanger, not the clutch. At first I thought it was the clutch, however upon listening more carfully, I found that the noise also happened under very light throttle in 1st through 3rd gear, when I was not using the clutch at all. Try listening while applying very light throttle, and see if it is the same for you. The noise only started happening after I changed my cat, so I am almost 100% positive it is the exhaust hanger.

^ i know what you mean because the sound becomes apparent when i'm just slowly creeping even without touching the clutch. I feared it could have been the clutch slipping or something but then again i'm not some clutch expert...

jw, does everyone's squeaking noises go away as the car is warmed up and in operating temperature? My noise seems to be the most apparent when i first start the car and goes away as my car is run.

try engaging lightly while holding the brake in first gear. I bet it'll squeak just like mine does.

btw you're in riverside? Interested in coming to a meet tomorrow?

My previous car, a 02 Ep3 did the same thing sometimes. I usually went away after it warmed up. I havent noticed it yet on my new si yet with 7000 miles

yeah this started happening to me also a few months back but it goes away and comes back as it pleases, i also noticed i happens more when its humid out and even if the car is warmed up. i took it to the dealer they said they "couldnt reenact the problem" so the lubed up a part of it and the next day it squeaked anyway. so im not sure what it is, cause the past week it has been cold and it hasnt squeeked at all, i might bring it in, when i try to get the new honda tranny fluid put in, and tell them to look at it again, anyone else have any suggestions? sorry for the long post btw

Yea mine also seems to be more prominent when it is warm than when It is cold.
