yeah don't worry about that (first) time going to redline in 1st gear with your new Si. You should be ok, just don't do it anymore cause thats WAY too much RPM for the 1st gear. think of it this way, you'll learn from that and MANY other (first time) mistakes with your car. You can't be perfect, you have to learn from your mistakes.

I grinded 1 time and 1 time only the first week I had my 07 Si coupe. going from 2nd to 3rd. but i think it was because it was new and that most if not EVERYONE has had problems going from 2nd to 3rd gear. it wasn't a bad grind but it was 7:30am in the morning going to work in my new Si and was still used to my old 2002 civic Ex, or something. I don't grind gears but i took it as a first time mistake and a LAST TIME mistake aswell.

God. I thought you keyed someone's car or something. If you don't make a habit of it, you should be okay. You correctly quickly I presume. So you should be okay.

yeah^. you'd be surprise how some none-knowing how to drive manual car RICERS actually go to redline in ANY manual car ALL THE TIME! LMAO!

The Si reaches QUICKLY in first gear so be careful. First gear is only for getting the car moving, not punching it. Just use 1st to go from 0 to 15 or 20 MPH before going to 2nd gear and so on.

It's really easy once you get in VTEC in first gear to overrev. The good thing is that there is a rev limiter to prevent you from going any further. I hit 8200 on Friday night and bumped the rev limiter in first gear.

Once with my G35, I was at a light and a guy tried to cut me off as the two lanes become one. I was so incensed by this jerk that I forgot to shift right away. Hit the rev limiter and the car made an arrr arrr arrr sound. I could have smacked myself on the forehead for that bonehead mistake. No damage done however and the car runs just fine.

Are you guys serious? This is not a big deal at all. Why would you buy an Si if you are not going to drive it in it's power range?

The rev limiter is designed so that you DO NOT hurt your engine. I've bounced off it many times on the track, and that is what it is there for.

+1. In theory, you could bounce it off the rev limiter all day long and not hurt anything. I would be more concerned if the Si had a pushrod motor.

I always hit 8200 RPM with 1st - 2nd gear. Thats why there is a rev limiter. It cuts off the engine so u wont hurt the cylinders. Anyways its an Si its made for that.

As some other folks have said, your car is fine. The rev limiter prevents your engine from damage as far as surpassing redline is concerned (unless you downshift into a gear that causes the rpm's to go well past the redline.)

Since when is it bad to redline 1st gear in a car? The only way to over rev an Si is to downshift in the most tragic way possible. Starting from a dead stop and redlining first before shifting to second isn't going to hurt the car. If you guys always shift to second at 17mph no wonder the Civic has a slow 0-60 and 1/4.

Maybe I'm a retard, but how is redlining 1st gear any different than doing it in 3rd?

To the OP: your car is fine. If you want your torqueless wonder to "fly off the line" feel free to hit 8k in every gear.

I'm with this guy.^

How on earth is redlining in 1st different from redlining in 2nd? The engine is still doing ~8,200rpm either way.

the engine cuts off throtle so i don't know what the heck you are worrying about unless you downshifted then that would be a problem
