Quality of the Body finish on the 8th gen

I've had a 5th gen Civic EX and the finish quality was very good.

On my new 8th gen Si coupe I've notice that the finish quality isn't as so good as the 5th gen. I was washing my car today and a piece of paint that was dangling from the bottom (In front below the rear right wheel) broke off. It looked like a little blue fang of some sort. Overall the undercarriage where the welding or bonding was done seems rather sloppy. It is all bumpy and what not.

I am sure other coupes have the same issue since I recall reading all Si coupes come from the same plant in Canada.

It would be a shame for Honda to start slipping in quality.

I've noticed on the very edge of one of the body panels, where the edge of it is about to tuck under the trunk.. they stopped clear coating too early and some bare paint is showing. I took it to honda and they said it was just regular wear and tear. whatevs.

It's a shame that they probably reduced a few coats of clear probably to save money. That's my theory. If I knew my paint was this thin from the begining, I would have sanded and re-cleared at my bodyshop from day one.

The paint quality in my 7thGen Civic was better than mine now. Polishing has now become an all to often occurrence. I hope they will take a hint and improve paint on subsequent models.

No its not its made in Canada. As with the rest of the FG's and some FA's many early production model FA's were being made in the U.S and Japan there has been no issues with the Japanese and American made Civics NONE! The problems people are having is with the civics coming out of Alliston,Ontario Canada. To the OP i cant agree with you more about the quality of the Civic that is made in Canada, it's like the workers at the Canada plant slapped the car together or drunk retards are working there and don't give a shit either way HOA needs to do an investigation into that plant in Canada big time. The quality of the Civics made in Canada have a shit load of problems. To name a few out of many they are as follows.

1.Mis matched paints on bumpers
2.Too many rattles/interior fitment quality is very poor(panels loose/even falling off/apart)
3.Paint problems and gear problems, oil leaks and engine problems (SI's and manual Civics)
4. Body pieces not aligned properly/poor/sloppy fitment
5.The civic feels like its going to fall apart
6. There are is way too many TSB's and recalls yet HOA either is ignoring/doesn't want to or just plan outright doesn't want to improve the quality of the Civic for reasons unknown and many of us have complained to HOA and HOC about the problems with the civic many times and supposedly HOC/HOA doesn't know about the problems, which is such a bullshit lie.
7.The power windows struggle going up and the RPMS move up considerably, plus if your windows are down push the door panel and the outside panel together the door panel is very flimsy.
8.The 2007 Civics are almost off the lots yet the quality has not been improved at all! and assuming the 2008 Civics are approaching soon my guess is the quality of the civics coming out of Canada will not be improved.

Overall i am very dissatisfied with HOA not only for not wanting to do anything about the problems the Civic is having, and what pisses me off and many members on here off is HOA/HOC doesn't even know the problems the Civics are having which is a total LIE! they are bullshitting and lying and they know it!

My car is still for sale and i cannot wait to get this pos civic off my hands. I cant believe i even bought this Civic in the first place i regret it. Whats funny is the dealers try to deny your warranty claims or they say "yeah the panel fitment gaps are normal" heh f*ck that! thats not normal for interior panels to be warping/popping off and falling off at all. HOA dealers are ignorant, rude and they see whats going on with the civics coming out of canada but do they or HOC/HOA care? nope not at all,so f*ck them! HOA/HOC and the HOA/HOC dealership/stealerships. We are through Honda! Toyota and Hondas quality is slipping very rapidly its still better then GM,Dodge and Ford but still slipping. If you want a high quality built machine buy Subaru and Nissan built with pride, care and quality!

come on guys what do you exspect. it is not a stage 2 paint job. the stock paint job is like a aftermarket stage 1.
this is a picture of my bros stage 2 paint job. the color is honda milano red. the paint job was done by my lil brother. just need to be wet sanded. i gurantee you that no one has the original color like this.

Nice paint job on the Del Sol.

However, regardless of what stage paintjob is on the car. I don't think a new car should have these defects. The US auto manufacturers were arrogant and cocky when they were #1. But look at them now.

Honda, Toyota, and the other JDM companies can quickly go down this road and end up like Ford and GM. Even though they might not feel the heat now. Hyundai is a growing threat with each passing year. Just wait the Chinese flood the market with their cheap econoboxes.

I remember buying a Honda and being impressed by the overall build quality. Now lookin the car over and thinking, man how quality control has fallen.

Bottomline, we should get better quality on a brand new car.

One other thing, with the Civics and CRVs selling well. Honda dealerships have become too arrogant. You walk in and you'd think they were selling a BMW or Lexus.

Toyota and Hondas quality is slipping and fast. Ronin i agree with you about Toyota and Honda dealers being arrogant just like BMW. I mean cmon look at the Fit quality compared to the Civic it is much better built and has better materials, the fit is what 14,000 and the Civic is 16-20,000? and the camry has terrible quality fit and finish as with the tundra that just came out. Come on HOA and TOA get your shit together and get back to quality control. If you want a high quality built machine buy a Subaru or a Nissan, both companies build their cars with pride, care and quality.

List of Automakers in America that have slipped or is slipping away in quality.
GM (still crappy quality but its slowly improving)
Ford (still crappy quality but slowly improving to improve sales bring Aussie and Europe lineups over)
Dodge (dead/defunct soon)
Toyota (seems like they are addressing the issues with teh tundra still needs to focus on quality control)
Honda (05 Civics had great quality but now the 06-07 Civics have terrible quality yet HOA refuses to do anything about it)

06CivExJon but there is one major difference with the Fit. They are still assembled and shipped over from Japan. I do believe the Japanese factory workers still hold a lot pride in their work.

As much as people I know in a certain asian country complain about them having no Si's and having to pay a premium. I think they are getting the better car since all their Civic still are shipped over from Japan.

Nissan, I've always had mixed feeling about. A few really good models, and a lot of other cars just to fill certain price segments.

Just remember, if they continue to be arrogant and let quality go to the crapper. They will all reap what they sow in the end.

I know the Fit is made in Japan and shipped over, and i know the Japanese take quality into their workmanship and craftmanship they always have and always will, the same with American built Japanese cars. It is the Canadian built vehicles that are having alot of problems, what happens if a Canadian built Civic wasnt built properly, wasnt inspected someone bought it and it literally split in half? and killed someone? you have to take into consideration the Canadian workers at the Alliston Ontario Canada plant dont give a shit because they are retards that just slap the vehicle together. There is no quality control whatsoever at the Canadian plant. The Alliston Ontario Canada plant where the U.S model Civics are built have a lot of problems. I really think dumbass retards are working at that plant.

My Si is fun; great fun to drive. But its my first and last Honda (out of 38 previous cars I've owned). I'm really anal about keeping my car meticulously detailed and maintained and I'm worried this car is going to fall apart in the next couple years. If Toyota still made sporty cars I'da never left. However, I do LIKE my Si ALOT, but the "legendary Honda quality" is not something I've experienced. I came too late to the party, I guess. But just cuz I missed the dance with the prom queen, doesn't mean I can't have some fun with the crew slut!

Amen. Si is a great car. Love the ride. But paint chips, rough spots on underbody, and third gear do all get to me. It may not be my last Honda - it handles like its on rails with only minor work - but I will consider carefully before picking another one over a competitor.

i have so many paint chips on my hood, this paint is crap. it must be the thinnest OEM paint i have ever seen. not to mention my car has the most orange peel. i have had the car for 5 months, just havent had time to take it to the dealer to be done, i wonder if they will do anything for me now.
also what does the vin start with to know if it were manufactured in Canada or Japan?
