Oil change break in period?

i got my oil change 350 miles ago and have been tkaing it easy...at around the 300 mile point i started taking her up to 5,500 rpm...im fiending to get to redline again. Whats a safe milage to redline at after an oil change? Should I wait longer?

I think the manual recommends 600miles or 1000km.

Hammer time

Is there really something in the manual that says you can't redline your car for a certain milage after EVERY oil change or are you talking about the inital car break in period?

Once your motor has been broken in and you have changed the oil, let her rip. Let the oil temperature stabilize as well as water temperature, and let the motor rip to the redline. The issue isn't how soon you can redline after an oilchange. The issue is letting the oil and water tempertures to get to the normal zone and stabilize first. Nothing like 8 grand on a stone cold motor to let the friction demons do their work.

Our cars won't let you engage vtec (high cam mode) with a cold motor.

There's no wait period. I'll just wait till the motor is at its optimal operating temperatures and I'll let her rip.

I've never followed any breakin period on any new cars I've ever owned. My dad always told me to "drive it like you stole it".

None of my cars have ever been oil burners, though most us a little oil during the factory fill run. After that, nothing noticeable.

Engines are started and ran hard before the car leaves the factory. The rings are pretty much already seated when it arrives at the dealer's lot.

Just use common sense, like don't run hard until your water and oil has heated up and you'll be fine.

Just for clarification, he's not asking about a break in period from the factory, he's asking if he can drive it hard following an oil change.

True, but you still want to stay away from high rpms when a motor is stone cold. I drive my cars like they are my own body. I wouldn't run a 100 yard dash without warming up first. Same applies to motors.

In the winter I do that, but it gets to 2 bars in only a few minutes cause I plug it in. In the summer i just start and go lol

who says to "break in" your oil? it begins to deteriorate the second you start your engine, eventually to the point where you have to change it.. unless I'm missing something here, you're pretty much good to go right away.

i think i read in the manual that you're not suppost to drive her hard after an oil change for around 300 miles, makes sense to me.

oil change break-in

dude, that's bullshit. once you change your oil and everything is up to temp let er rip. you don't need a break in period on an oil change.
