1st gear questions?

Does letting the clutch grip and move the car a lil before you apply gas cause damage to your clutch? Is this slipping the clutch?

I learned to drive stick by letting the clutch grip first and then slowly apply gas as i release the clutch. My launches are very smooth but am i riding my clutch?

well maybe i can help not 100%sure im rite. any way i would say try to apply gas while letting out the clutch, not letting out the clutch fast enough while applying gas would be riding the clutch.

learning with this method, let the clutch grip first is good to learn when it will grab, once you got that down then add gas to the mix, and then try to master it,

that's actually easier on the clutch than to apply gas initially to help the clutch grip.

It's just slower for you to get going and it'll be harder to use on hills or something like that.

Anytime your foot is on the clutch, your riding it. Idealy, you want your foot on the clutch as alittle as possible while still making a smooth shift. The slower you depress and release the clutch, the more your wearing it down although starting on hills, etc require you to ride it more then on a flat surface.

Any time the clutch isn't fully engaged or disengaged, it's slipping. In some cases, a worn clutch will slip even if it's engaged (signs of a worn clutch).

From what you described, it doesn't sound like you're riding the clutch. Riding the clutch would be if you're constantly on the clutch in every gear to make it feel smooth.
